Crozier. Miss Crozier also. insisted on having it re- finished at her expense and Mr. C. W. King, to whom the work was assigned has done a very excellent job. In fact the polish seems softer and richer than that of a new table. - - The Board have placed the table where it scems to show to best ad- vantage, and they will use it at their Board meetings in future. All Mem- bers of the Board are deeply appre- ciative of this very practical and ser- viceable donation and it is much ad- mired by all visitors to the Library. It is true that the Library chairs look very cheap and tawdry when placed around this splendid piece of furniture and have a tendency to be- little it. We wonder if some of the many friends of the Library, who ap- preciate its service to the community, would be glad to get together and present a chair or two cach, of uni- table? The Board also wish to acknowledge the gift of two large, framed pictures of His Majesty the King and of our beloved Queen, which have been placed over the inner entrance door where all may sce them. This patriotic gift is from Mr. Frank Dawes, a former Port Perry boy who still takes an interest in his home town. ---- " TINY LOCKET BURIED FOR MORE THAN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS "A tiny locket, still in good condition was found four feet underground on the property of Miss Johnston, by Mr. Neil Davidson this week. It was found near an old wooden drain. Miss Johnston told Mr. Davidson that it must have been there over twenty- ve years, as no digging had been done since she purchased the property some twenty-five years ago. She suggested Mr, Davidson keep the locket as a "keep-sake" which he intends to do in spite of the high money offers already offered for this rare and | valuable locket, Winners of the I. O. D. E. It will most cer tainly be more this year. features of improved county financing enacted during .the past few years. Among them are a very substantial reduction in the debenture debt which provincial 'highway expenditures boosted a few years ago. The debt today stands at a little over $400,000 and several large payments in, 1941, 1942, and 1943, will make a further large reduction, The desirable haven vided the utmost of care is taken in future years to keep expenditures down, Two years ago the County Council adopted recommendations brought in by Mr. Letcher and his committee which gave the county more insurance protection for a great deal less money. It was a move long overdue and one which has been copied to advantage by the Town of -Whitby and other municipalities. In 1937 the county was going finan- cially behind. Today, the picture is the reverse for balanced budgets have been achieved and all expenses met.
