Mr. , one of our local jokers, called us on the 'phone while this column was being written, and m- formed us in an excited manner that he had a most singular incident to tell about and that it could be used in this column if we desired. We told him to fire ahead, and he fired. "Motoring down to Brooklin", he began, "we ran over Mr. ----'s Rhode Island Red hens flattened the old bird so that she was! pretty near -as -big around as the cover of a 60 pound lard tub. Two wheels passed right over "her." "What's so strange about; that?" we asked. "Well--listen--itdidn't kill or hurt the hen; that's the queer part of it. Didn't hurst it a bit and just think of the weight that passed over that chicken, die you, with three of us in the car." "You mean to say that eo hedls of your car ran over a hen, smashing it out flat--like the cover of a 00 pound lard tub, as you say--and did not injure nor kill it?" we ask. "That is the particular information I am try- ing to impress upon your mind. Yes, it never hurt the old hen a bit, as I can prove by two other witnesses." "Well--er--how do you account for such a strange, almost miraculous feature of the incident?" we asked. "How do I?" he yelled. "Yes, sir; how do you?" we shouted. "Why", he went on, "you see, the old hen was dead before we got to it." We weakly hung the receiver, PRINCE ALBERT Mr. and Mrs, Ben Smith and family spent New Year's day in Norwood at the home of the latter's brother, Mr. W. Webb. Sgt.
