This widely known choir is named after Thomas Tallis, the sixteenth-century "father of English Church music", during whose life England rivalled any coun- try in musical development. The choir was first organized in 1935. as a choral society of young people, but they be- gan' to shecialize in unaccompanied music of the Church, and under their founder and conductor, Mr. John Cozens, they developeddinto a "deman- stration choii", aiming to show that a choir of about a dozen voices can properly renedr traditional master- pieces of church music, and that they require no more from. an organist than discreet accompaniment, when any is called for.
