EX-PUPILS ARE STILL THE CHAMPIONS Last Friday an outstanding Basket- ball 'gariie was witnessed in the P.P. H.S. The rivalry between the Senior H. S. Basketball team and the Ex- pupils of the past two or three years ~ ended in a decisive 34-27 victory for - the out-of-school boys. This was the 2nd annual of such games held there and in both cases the ex-pupils man- aged to come out no top. 1 wonder . what's the matter with the school 'team? Arve they getting too much " practice? At any rate both teams should be complimented on their fine ~ team play and good clean: sportsman- . ship. For the Basketball fans it was © full of ercitement and thrills from start to finish, not knowing which side was going to score next. Mr. Breckow, the referee, deserves a great deal of credit for the Way in which he handled the game at times "when it seemed more like a football match. On the whole it proved to be a happy get-together for the grads and they are looking forward for more such competitions in the future, » > RIPE RASPBERRIES Mr. H. R. MARRIED HARRIS-SOMERVILLE High School Notes Ad Optima By D. H. Nasmith This week at school has been shorts ened, .dug to the holiday on Thanks- giving Day. Sincé Monday is always an important day in school life, the School Notes for this week are rather brief. . The reason for this in- tensive training is that that they will ' soon be contending for the champion- ship of the basketball league of the district. = This league includes Port Perry, Whitby and Uxbridge. We shall eagerly await the announcement of the schedule for the games, especially those which are to be played ! in the local gymnasium, PGP AUTUMN VAGARIES '(Marion Franklin) I have found from experience that the world can be seen and appreciated from my own doorstep. Each evening 'before supper I sit on the varandah or at the west window to start my home- | work. Often when I look off into the distance to rest my eyes, the beauty of the country to the west attracts my attention and my gaze tarries there longer than 1 intended to let it. But last night, being Sunday night, 1 had more leisure time than I usually' haye on week nights, and very often I let my attention wander from my book, I noticed that, as the descénd Eyes Examined Glasses complete, or lenses only, supplied where necessary, a reasonable prices,-- 1.R. And these hills rose 'in beautifully coloured tiers, one above the other, tothe horizon. = On the horizon the® blue hills seémed to separate the deep colours from. the delicate blue of the sky. Soft white clouds moved slowly amid little clouds, likd chuge ships sailing on a foam- crested sea. And from the sky, my gaze dropped to the bright green of a wheat field in front of the woods, and them to the dark green of the cedar bush in the hollow. Now my gaze quickly passed over the familiar sight of the broad stretch of still yellow stubble; over the' trees, the lane, the hedge, the lawn' and 'everything that was in front of me, to my book: $81. 32 Collected We are pleased to report that the Boy Scouts collected $81.32 last Saturday Good for you boys! Some of us are new 'acquaintances, many are old friends and a few have known you from your childhood, but all are sincere in their appreciation of the long and faithful service you have given this Church, its Sunday School and its Choir, but in particular the patient labour of love in caring for the Com ion V 1s and Appoint- ments of the Sacrament over a period of years. Possibly you thought you were unobserved but your devotion was not overlooked. We hope you have not only initiated but -inspired some of t the younger girls to take up this . important. office which you are resigning. Your regular attendance to all of us as was your ready assist- ance in all undertakings, not forget- ting the important position of "Vestry Clerk" for which office we shall ex- perience trouble in procuring: a suc- cessor who will give it the attention it deserves to keep our records faith fully. We think it would be a very gen- érous gesture , on your part if you could influence the future Mr. Aléx- ander to make Port Perry his place of residence and thus permit you to continue your good offices. Possibly this is- too much to ex- pect so we will resign ourselves to the inevitable and only ask you to receive our very sincere. wishes for your prosperity and welfare and accept, as a slight token of our appre- ciation of your friendship and. your sterling - virtues, this lamp accomp- anied by the hope it may light your path for many years to come and serve asa slight remembrance - of your Port Perry friends. k Signed on 3 bghatf of the Committee: Martha Pearson C.
