LIMITED © PORT PERRY, ONT. A LETTER FROM ENGLAND The following letter was received by Rev. Joseph Denny, 13 Buckland Lane, Maidstone Kent, England, Nov. 24 Dear Uncle: ' What a lovely sutprise you sent us again, it arrived this last-week. It is such a lovely flavoured cheese, much nicer than we get in our rations. I went home to Tunbridge-Wells on Thursday and took Dad a share of it. He also enjoyed it very much, The Family Heralds arrive very spasmodically, Last week we re- ceived October 165th, the week pre- viously it Was October 22nd, so we put then. aside so as to be able to follow the serial. Patricia likes "Ben Web- ster" and when Kenneth arrives home he always asks if any Family Heralds have come. Patricia received a par- cel of Onwards and Canadian Girls. She enjoys them so much, Charles is not so busy now, this is due to the short days and blackout, Labour is getting very short be- cause so many young women being called up mostly into the services. By the way they are just reading out the latest general news from Can- ada fromthe Overseas Daily Mirror. It is very interesting about people who will not pay their rates, so lights were not put on in the streets and also about the only Gallic College ja Canada... Milk' rationing started. in earnest | this week. We have not really noticed it yet; 'but we shall miss our milk puddings. We are allowed two pints Beach week and Patricia gets half 4 pint a day. We are supposed to be having a tin of milk powder also, We have not heen able to get any tinned milk for a long time, although' thete are supposed to be millions of tina sent over. We had a Canadian egg last week. We have one a fortnight. J am going to try to make a Christmas pudding this week. We are allowed 12 ounces of fruit for this month. In December it goes back to six ounces each. Only children undef six get oranges. We also get four ounces of sugar extra and two extra ounces of fat each week. This makes things a little better. 1 do hope I do not tire] you when I write about the food ra- tioning question, . The shops are looking very bright E. Afternoon teas at the homes of the members, during the summer months, was one way of raising funds and Jn the colder months, hot suppers after which a pleasant hour was spent socially. Much was added to the funds by quilting 'quilts. - Some very lovely work wag.done on several quilts for Toronto ladies. = The sick were re: membered through the year by flowers and fruit and hospital and local visit- ing brought cheer to the shut-ins.
