Letcher over the week end., Mr. Will Dawes has been a resident of Portage la Prairie for «+ many" years. Both these gentlemen + spent their boyhood in Port Perry. Myr. and Mrs. have been visiting Perry and vicinity. Hanover on Monday, Flying Officer Joel Aldred, of the R.C A.F,, Trenton, was in town for the week end. Town Clerk G. F. Manning was in Toronto on Friday of last week se- curing notable talent for the great Victory Loan Ice Carnival to be held on Monday, February 23rd. This will be a wonderful event and will serve us Port Perry's Victory Loan Beacon. Mr. Bruce Herdman and lady friend of Toronto, Miss Winnifred Hughes, and Mr. Floyd Hughes, of Fort Erie, were in town on Saturday. Mrs. Douglas Lade, of Toronto, spent the -week-eml with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Balfour. Miss Ethel Cook is visiting in To- ronto, for a few days. AC2 John Leahy left for New York R.C.AF, Precision Drill Squad of No. 1 Manning Depot, under the command of Squadron Leader L. J. Dyte. While in New York they put.on their dress "demonstration twice in Times Square, and in Madison Square Gardens. They returned to Toronto Friday night and went to Ottawa Saturday to open the Second * Victory Loan Campaign in _ that city. Mac Beare, Hanover, friends in Port They returned to YOUNG PEOPLE'S UNION "The Young People's Union held a meéting on Tuesday evening, which opened with . the Invocation hymn followed by prayer by Margaret Day. Marion Sweetman read the Scripture; the minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted; the roll was called and collection taken. Bill Hayes gave a reading and this was followed by a hymn. Mr, Sam Cawker. was guest speaker, He had chosen for his - topic "Aspects of Christian Citizenship.' He stressed "the point "that "we should read Tour Bible more and follow the teachings of Christ in our daily lives. Miss Evelyn Guy, who was convener of the meeting, thanked Mr. Cawker for his most interesting address. Then a hymn was sung and everyone re- peated theMizpah Benediction. A few games were played and the evening ended with the singing of the National Anthem. Next Tuesday night-we are enter- taining the Young- People of Seagrave Church. EVENING AUXILIARY OF W.M.S. The regular monthly mecting-of the Evening Auxiliary was held in the|considered as not very great." MEET Friday evening was regular meet- ing time for Port Perry Lions. The occasion was graced by the presence of a number of visitors, including Mr. I". C. Dawes, of Toronto, Mr, Wm. Dawes, of Portage la Prairie; Reeve Leteher, and Mr, R. J. Harper. After dinner Lion Will Chapman who presided; brought business before the members, Two items of interest were dis- cussed. First the matter of speed signs" on, the front street, warning motorists of the proximity of a school and the need for moderate speed. In the discussion it was stated that three drivers had been repeatedly re- ported for exceeding the speed limit. It was also stated that action in this matter is likely to be taken by the Provincial Police. Lion Roy Cornish was instructed to proceed with: the erection of suitable signs in conjunc- tion with the Council. The general strength of Port Perry: Police Force for some years past was day Mr. W. Dawes said that there certainly was a time when Port Perry Police were strong enough to suit him. Mr. Dawes' cup, which he had pre- sented through the Lions Club for Midget hockey, was on the table. Lion Roy Cornish told how this gift had stimulated hockey among the midgets, thirty of whom have been wider his training on Saturday mornings this winter. This meeting was in charge of Grade X, and the fact that it was held on a Friday the thirteen, made it no less a success. The meeting was opened with the singing of "O Canada" and the Vice- President of <the Literary Society, The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the secretary, Marion Franklin, and duly adopted, The meeting was then turned over to Grade X, Margaret Hocken gave the introductory remarks on behalf of the Grade, and thanked the class teacher, Mr. Vernon for his supervision of the program. Margaret Tobin played: a piano solo entitled "Eidelwiss's Glide" as the first selection on the program. This was followed by a skit in which members of the class showed in ex- cellent fashion their stage abilities. Mrs. W. R. Tristram gave the critic's report on the presentation of the skit. The final selection on the program was a vocal number sung by the entire class entitled "The White Cliffs of Dover". The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. PRINCE ALBERT Mr. C. Ross of Ottawa, visited his sister Mrs. H. R. Murphy last week. Mr. 'F. Hunter 'had the misfortune last week to be badly injured while working at the Pickering Plant, when a truck backed and jammed him in a. doorway, where she happened to be working. Luckily the door gave way or matters would have been worse. After a few days in the Pickering rlant- hospital, Fred was removed to] the Oshawa Hospital where he now is. and other injuries, We all-hope for improvement in Fred's- condition, Rev. VW, J, H, Smyth, of Blenheim, was guest to supper at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Murphy, while on his visit to Port Perry, recently.
