Proprietor OBITUARY THOMAS JAMES BLIGHT After great suffering, patiently borne, the death occurred in the Osha- wa General Hospital, on Thursday night, May 20th, 1943, of Thomas J. Blight, in his" 64th year, well known and highly respected resident of Port Perry. Mr. Blight had been ailing for some months but his death came as a great shock to his family and friends. He was admitted to hospital just twenty-four hours prior to his death. Born. in Bristol, England, in 1880, son of the late Thomas and Sarah Blight, he was one of a family of seven children, In the year 1904 he was married to Alice M. M. Penney, of Bristol, and to this union three chil- dren were born. He came to Canada with his family in 1912 and followed the trade of painter and decorator in Toronto before moving to Port Perry in 1919, where he made his home un- til some ninetéen months ago, when he moved to Oshawa to engage in war work. Owing to the serious illness of Mr. Blight their thirty-ninth wedding an- niversary was quietly observed on May 14th with just the immediate family. He was a member of the Indepen- dent. Order of Forésters and the United Church, He is survived by a loving wife and one son, Thomas Albert Blight, of Hortop Ave., Oshawa, one daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Reesor (Alma), Port Perry. One daughter, Frances, died in infancy. Also are two brothers, Fred and Jim, two sisters Mrs, Arthur Brown and Mrs, 'William Brown, (a half brother and a half sister prede- ceased him some years ago), all of England. Three grandsons also sur- vive. The funeral was held at the Mec- Dermott Funeral Home, Port Perry, at 2 p.m, on Sunday, May 23rd, followed by interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. Rev. W. Eaton Company, Russell Aubrey Harper, 57 died on Wednesday, May '19th, at the Toronto General Hospital, He lived at 9 Fair- view Avenue, Toronto. Mr. Harper was born at Port Perry, son of the late William and Ann Har- per. He resided in Peterboro for a number of years. . Surviving are his widow, Mary Le- titia Wood Harper; two sons, William T. and Robert J, and a daughter, Evelyn May; two brothers, Rex and William, one sister, Kathleen, (Mrs. A. E. Gimble.) Bailey, Scugog Street, Port Perry, pleaded guilty in Port Perry Police' Court, to a charge of haying liquor in his possession after his liquor privileges had been cancelled by the Liquor Control Board, and was assessed $100/and costs, The 'liquor was confiscated to the Crown, and the premises were declared a public place, including rooms of boarders, roomers or tenants therein, for the period of one year. Corporal Oliver stated that at 10 p.m., May 8, he and Constable James Sutherland searched the Bailey pre- They also found 18 full quarts of ale, and one full and two part-full pints of ale, The witness informed the court that he had served notices, on both Bailey and. his wife, of the cancella- tion of their liquor privileges on Jan. 11, 1942, There was no defence. A similar charge against Mrs. Bai- Jey 9 was withdrawn by the Crown. A delightful social gathering - was held at the Sebert House on Friday evening of last week, when the Lions and their wives met at a regular ses- sion of the Club. The ladies were in- vited so that they might see what the meetings were like, This was an idea put forward by President Roy Cornish and it was well received, the atten- dance was unusually good. A most enjoyable evening was spent. An important feature of the pro- gram: was an address by Rev. Ernest Rand, of Toronto, who spoke on "Pri- son Reform".
