WATSON--At- Wellesley Hospital, Toronto, on Sunday, August 8th, 1943, po Watson, beloved husband of the late Ann Vincent, in his 98th year. Interment in Caesar's Cemctery, on Tuesday, August--10th, Mr. Watson was late of Caesarea, Ont. tee Douglas Claus of Oshawa Killed in Accident at Brooklin Douglas Marshall Claus, 11-year- old son of Mr. and Mrs, Leo Sea- bourne Claus, 446 Simcoe St. South, was almost instantly killed at about 7.30 Monday night when a National Grocers truck, driven by Earl Gordon Carnochan of Port Perry, skidded and sideswiped a Golden Transport, driven by Scott Taylor, Apt. 6, 134 Kent St., Lindsay, on a curve at the northern limits of the Village of Brooklin. Neither of the vehicles upset. The Claus boy was riding with Bill Locke, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Locke, 17 Hall Street, in the "stake body" which was covered over by a tarpaulin. When the acci- dent occurred the left side of the Na- tional Grocers truck was torn off and Claus was tossed to the shoulder on the west side of the pavement. Locke had moved to the right side of the body and escaped with multiple cuts and bruises. He is resting in bed at his home today. Died Almost Instantly Dr. Stewart of Toronto, who was following the National Grocers truck, and Dr. John McKinney of Brooklin, gave medical attention. Dr, McKinney stated that Claus was dead when he arrived at the accident. He performed a postmortem at the Luke Funeral Home, which revealed that the boy had died of a fracture at the base of the skull and internal injuries, _ Myrtle Station Church service will be held on Sun- day evening at the usual hour 7.30. There was a good attendance at the regular monthly meeting of the W.A. on Thursday afternoon of last week when it was held at the home of Mrs. Masters. The president, Mrs, C. Har- rison was in charge throughout and Was assisted in the worship service by Mrs, R. Chisholm. A short business period followed, after which Miss D. Williams, of Toronto, a visitor, sang a very lovely number in her usual pleas- ing manner. Then a sing-song, led by Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Harrison, was heartily enjoyed by all. After the meeting was closed, raspberries and cream with accessories, were served at tables on the shady lawn, and a pleasant hourvas spent socially. - Mr. and Mrs: Eric McFarlane, Mr. and Mrs, Roland Hornby, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Stredwick and Jackie, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Winter and Betty Joyce, Mrs. Mabel Winter. and Miss Irene Winter, all of Oshawa, were callers during the past week at the home of Harold and Mrs, Stredwick. Congratulations to Mr. 'and' Mrs. Carnochan on the recent arrival of their little son. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Nottingham are home again after a pleasant holi- day spent in Muskoka district. Mrs. E. Cook's nephew, Harold Richards, took place on Wednesday of this week, Pte. Leonard McDermott, who, with his wife and baby, has been holiday- ing with Myrtle relatives, and who was in camp at Toronto, has been transferred to Camp Borden and left on Monday for his new station, Little Miss Marion Leask of Ux- bridge, is spending 'this week with her aunt, Mrs. Parrinder and Archie, Mrs. R, Long spent a pleasant after- noon on Friday with Mrs. W. Taylor and Mrs. Mary Cassidy of Ashburn. Everyone from lieutenant-' colonel to private .share in the raise.. Similar increases were granted the Women's Services of the Navy and the Air Force. Basic pay will now be 80 per cent of that paid men in the Armed Forces, instead of the former 66% per cent. And the girls, eligible for trades pay, will be paid at the same rates as their male comrades in arms. Pre- viously they were paid twa thirds of .| male trades pay rates. Under the new wage scale, a pri- vate's (C.W.A.C.) pay may be in- creased to $1.10 a day after four month's efficient service, and to $1.20 a day after six month's efficient ser- vice. : Dependents of members of the C. W.A.C,, as well as those of the Wrens and the Women's Division of the Air Force, other than husbands and chil- dren, are now eligible for dependents' allowances at the same rates and under the same conditions as apply to dependent$ of men. Thus a dependent parent or other close relative may re- ceive an allowance up to $26 a month.
