Rn AA a or va ~ ZH ETE Fe rr JY 29th, 1943 RN SS ITI ASANTE? NEIGHBORS AND GENTLEMEN It's Up To YOU! MR. AND MRS. VOTER TO MAKE ONTARIO STRONG Our danger in this Province is not unemployment after the War, but rather a shortage of workers for the job which lies ahead. If only those who direct our affairs have the vision to see the role which Ontario and Canada can play in the post-war world. Hailed as the greatest event in the political history of Ontario, George Drew and his Progressive Conservative candidates are pledged to a sweeping 22-point platform. It is termed "the finest -- social document fn Ontario's history." Here is a summary of only three of these points of particular interest to this riding. i. REMOVAL OF HYDRO RURAL GEORGE, HARE ~~ SERVICE CHARGE Recognizing that the publicly awned Hydro-Electr ic resources helong to all our-people, there will be an « immediate adjustment of the rates for electric energy upon a just and equitable basis. The service charge in rural areas; will be removed. Power will be extended to farms with full recognition of the fact that food production in war is hardly less essential to our success than the military effort. SCHOOL TAXES REDUCED ONE HALF There will be a sweeping revision of our whole system of real estate taxation so that the owning and improvement of homes and farm land, which are the very foundation of our society, will not be dis- couraged by excessive taxation. AS AN INITIAL STEP IN THAT DIRECTION THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT WILL ASSUME AT LEAST 50 PER CENT. OF THE SCHOOL TAXES NOW CHARGED AGAINST REAL ESTATE. IT IS, HOWEVER, TO BE CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD THAT THIS CHANGE WILL NOT AFFECT THE AUTHORITY OF THE LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS. WILL TAKE OVER STOCK YARDS Stock Yards will be taken over by the Government and operated as a publicly owned - enterprise, so that speculation and manipulation may be stopped and fair prices assured. Vote and Elect GEORGE HART THE PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE George Hart needs no introduction to the residents of Oshawa, Whitby, or hardly anyone in Ontario County. He has long heen prominent in public life, serving for four years as alderman in the city Council; Chairman of Local School Trustees; President and one of the founders of Oshawa Chamber of Commerce; Director of No. 4 District: Agricultural Fairs; Director of South Ontario Agricultural Society; Past President Sons of England; Past District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic Order; Vice- President of Canadian. Legion and Past President of South Ontario Conservative Association. Born in London, England, he came to Canada at the age of 19 and started his career in the new world as a farmer. In 1919 he established the Oshawa Dairy Limited, of which he is president. He will long be remembered for his contribution in service in connection with every patriotic and community effort. Three sons have served in the armed forces. This, then, is the man who you are invited to support in this election. This type of citizen certainly merits your confidence and support at the the polls on t 4th, August 4 PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO At nomination meetings in Whitby last week it was said of the Progres- sive candidate, George S. Hart, that he was a good neighbor and of the Lib- eral candidate, J. C. Anderson, K.C,, that he was a gentleman. - © Thesé two tributes, uttered from a public platform by men who knew both candidates intimately, were far greater than any reference that might have been made to wealth or social stand- ing, or important achievements, as is too often the case today when men are. 'being chosen for public office. One likes to think that good neigh- bors who are also gentlemen are re- cognized as possessing qualifications very necessary today in public life and as strong bulwarks of good citizenship. It is perhaps more 'true today than ever before that "a man's life con- sisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth," but in his stand- ~ing in the community, the quality of service he is capable of rendering to his fellow 'men and his willingness to J render it. A man who is known to be a good neighbor and a gentleman has certainly nothing to bg ashamed of but something to be proud of. Both shall fit well into the firmament of political life. , ------e-------------- - COUPON BOOK NO. 3 TO BE DISTRIBUTED Coupon Ration Book *No. 3 which becomes valid in September, will be distributed during the week of August 23 to 28, it is announced by the Ration Administration of the Wartime Prices and Trade Board. Consumers are warned not to discard the old'book as there will be a period of overlap when coupons from both books will be good. ALL CANNING COUPONS ARE DECLARED VALID On and after July 26th, all canning sugar coupons including those marked August and September will be valid for the purchase of sugar for home canning. No change in the the over- all sugar situation is anticipated, it was emphasized. --eoe------------ "What are you going to do about it, sir?" demanded the enraged ten- ant. "The walls of my house are all bulging outward." "Bulging outward are they?" said the landlord, with a pleasant smile. "Then -your fouse must be bigger; I shall raise your rent." THE C,C..F. PLANS JOB SECURITY for OUR FIGHTING MEN "The most important job of any Government is to _ guarantee jobs for our boys 'when they return from the battle fronts." . . --ARTHUR WILLIAMS Arthur Williams, C.C.F. Candidate Point No. 1 in the C. C. F. Platform: 'Plan immediately for the employment of all after the war," Jobs for all during the peace are possible only through C.C.F. Policies. During the days before the war the policies of the old parties left a trail of unemployment - and misery across Ontario. SHALL OUR BOYS RETURN TO THOSE DAYS? An Oshawa hoy with the Canadian Army overseas writes: "Let us make sure the world will be a better place tolive in than it was previous to the war, When I think of what may happen if the powers that be retain their stranglehold on the means of livelihood, I am scared. Surely to God we are not going back to those rotten days of '29, '30, and '31."' YOU CANNOT LET THEM DOWN! If democracy is worth dying for over there, it is worth : voting for over here!! THE FUTURE DEPENDS ON YOU - VOTE C.C.F. seer WILLIAMS sve. « C. C. F. Ontario Riding Association Mh J A A Sd Si
