Henry, also the sudden death of one of Cartwright's oldest and highly respected citizens, Mr. Albert Woy, SUSAN CRAWFORTH ALLIN In her 84th year, the death occlrred on Dec. 2nd, at Oshawa General Hos- pital of Susan Crawforth Allin, widow of the late Richard Henry Allin, and a member of one of the early pioneer families in Whitby district, Deceased was born in Whitby Township, July 5th, 1859, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Craw- forth. She was the youngest of a family of ten children. She had lived for 51 years on the farm epst of Whitby. LJ Deceased is survived by one-son, Percy, who is principal of the Con- tinuation School at Blackstock; two grandsons, Richard and John, of 'Blen- heim, and two granddaughters, Muriel of Weston, and Phyllis of Whitby Township. SARAH CATHARINE SWAIN On Nov. 18, Sarah Catharine(Katie) Swain, passed quite suddenly into the larger, richer life, Deceased was daughter of Thomas and Eliza Werry and was born Nov. 16th, 1863, on Concession 4, not far from Blackstock. On Feb. 3rd, 1892, she was united in i» _ marriage, with Stanford Swain, who * predeceased her. March 22, 1936. Shortly afterward they moved to what was known as the Woodley Farm, Cartwright, where she resided during the remainder of her life, There is left to mourn the passing of a good and gracious woman, these children: Lewis, Herbert and Harold, Blackstock, Weir of Timmins, Annie (Mrs. M.R. Sandreson, Toronto), Ag- nes (Mrs. Clarence Marlow, Black- stock), Margaret (Mrs. Oakley Carley of Cavan). The second son, Roy, was killed in France in 1917; two brothers, Albert Werry, Blackstock, and Lewis Werry, Punta Gorda, Florida, and one sister, Nora (Mrs. Andrew Power, of Lindsay), and 12. grandchildren, The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Mr, Bryce, a missionary from India home on furlough for two years, 'interested us very much with his moving pictures of India. The pic- tures described the great jungles, the people, the animals and especially the work of the missionary on the lives of the Indian people, Seagrave Sunday School held its annual Christmas concert on Wednes- day evening, December 22nd. The program consisted of choruses, drills, pantomimes, recitations and dialogues by the members of the Sunday School. The committee in charge were Mrs, J. Tobin, Mrs. W. Tristram and Mrs. B. We Moon, Seagrave School Notes The meeting of the Bluebird branch, Junior Red Cross, was: held on the 20th of Dec., in the Seagrave School. The president, Mae Thompson, oc- cupied the chair. Eunice Fishley 'act- ed as secretary. The meeting opened with the Junior Red Cross song, fol- lowed by the motto. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Collection - amounted to $2.05. The Health, Humane and Ser- vice report was read. It was moved by Vera Thompson and seconded by Leona Reynolds that we send the pro- ceeds from the bazaar and Christmas concert to the British Christmas Cheer Fund. The program opened with a " = 7 Vs! ~| decided success, Ee pe , ------ -- chorus, "Hurrah for the Christmas Time" by the pupils; tollowed by a recitation, "When Santa Claus Comes" by Marion Forster; a. dialogue; fol- lowed by a piano solo by Leona Rey- nolds; a guitar and piano duet by Marion and Eunice Fishley; recitation, "The Look-Out Man" by Allan Hicks; Junice Fishley played a piano number followed by the rhythm band; a two- part chorus, "Shepherds Watched their Flocks; a dialogue, "Fright be- fore Christmas"; Graham Lester gave a recitation, Christmas"; a song "Tick, Tack" was given by the juniors; the whole rhy- thm band played again as did Gordon Fishley and Eunice Fishley. The pro- gram closed with God Save the King. A bazaar followed the concert and the proceeds amounted to $14.00, MANCHESTER Donald Christie, Veterinary, of To- ronto, John Christie, R.C.A.F, St. Thomas, were home for the Christmas holiday. Earl Innes, Wesley Johnson and Doreen Johnson. Proceeds $17.00, Miss Margaret Johns attended the wedding of Else Heldt and Lieut. Sam Settner, in Toronto, on December 24. Holstein News The December issue of the Holstein |- Friesian Journal reports another out- standing record for the herd of Ed- ward Oyler, Port Perry. Creator Piebe Alcartra in the two year old class, 865 day division, produced by twice a day milking 17,213 Ibs, milk with 697 Ibs. of butter fat. She was first for milk and fifth tor fat in her class. This heifer comes from a fam- ily of high producers. Both sire and dam were bred and owned by Mr. Oyler.
