Sharpe Celebrated Her 90th Birthday on January 29 (Timmins Daily Press) One .of Timmins oldest residents, Mrs. E. M. Sharpe (Mina), 108 Birch street south, celebrated her 90th birth- day on January 29th, and was the re- cipient of many good wishes. Among the well-wishers was her son George | with whom she lives, ! Resident in Timmins since 1926, ! Mrs. Sharpe was born on Scugog Is- land the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Reader. She married Geor Sharpe in 1876, who passed away in (1902. They lived in Port' Perry for a time. During the service Sub- Lieutenant Lyle Sherwin rendered a solo, The weekly meeting of the Young : Peobles Society was held on Friday "Throw Out the Life Line" was then sung. Mr. Wm. Gardiner gave the topic which was followed by a read- ing by Joan Hill. A quartette con- sisting of the Lynde sisters, then sang and Noreen Frizell gave a reading. Sub-Lieut. Sherwin conducted a music contest and the meeting closed with the singing of "Let the Lower Lights be Burning" and the Mizpah bene- diction. Mrs. I. M. Lee of Oshawa and Mrs, A. Reynolds of Pickering, visited with Mr, and Mrs. Edgar Heron during the week. . A number from this vicinity at- tended the Oddfellows' Annual "At Home" at Brooklin, on Friday night. Mrs. Innis Grant returned to Port Perry after spending a week with Mr, and Mrs. David Grant. Mr, and Mrs, Martin Gaul, of Clare- mont, visited at the home of Mr, and Murs. Lorne Parrott recently. Mrs. Leonard Clark, of Oshawa, called on friends in the village on Fri- day evening. Mr. Robt. Mole visited at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harvey Dobson at Manchester, last week. Mr. Henry Doble, Miss Florence Doble and Miss Vera Leach attended the Ice Follies at Maple Leaf Gardens on Thursday night. AC2 James Doble, of Mountain View, was stricken with an attack of tonsilitis while visiting his parents Mr,.and Mrs. Henry Doble, and was removed to the hospital at Manning Pool, Toronto, We hope for a speedy recovery. AC2 Theodore Knight, stationed at Trenton, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Knight over the week- end. Mrs. L.- Moase, Miss Betty Goose, of Long Branch, spent the week-end at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs, Robt. Goose. --Miss-Ada-Warren spent-the week- end at her home in Toronto. Trooper and Mrs. Laurence Doble and infant son Philip Laurence are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. H. Doble. Tickets are now on sale for the en- tertainment to be held on Tuesday evening, Feb, 16th at 8.156 p.m. under the auspices of the Ladies Guild. The Johnson Entertainers of Blackwater, assisted by Miss Iva Fallowdown, will put on a full two hour program con- sisting of music, skits, monologues and novelty selections. Seagrave Young People's Union The meeting of the Seagrave Young People's Union was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Scott, on Wednesday, February 2nd, 1944. The ship followed by the hymn "Speed Away". The story of Jennie Lind was told by Beverley Scott. This was fol- lowed by the Scripture read by Mur- ray Short, Psalm 96:1:13. The topic of Missions was taken by Mrs, Tre- meer, followed by the hymn "Jesus Tloyd Short entitled, "A Hymn for To-day". The prayer was given by Miss A. Frise. Plans were made for the Young People's Church service to be held on Sunday, February 18th, The meeting closed by. all repeating the" Benediction, : Refreshments were served and enjoyed by all. After lunth old favorite songs were sung. ---- PROSPECT _The annual congregational meeting was held on Monday night, February 7th, at the home of Mrs. Holliday, and the Rev. P, L. Jull presided. A, Sweetman has returned to her home here from Newmarket. . Sorry to hear the Head School is closed owing to the teacher, Miss Nid- dery having an attack of pneumonia.
