Sanderson, Orange- ville, visited Mr. and Mrs. H. Hooey a few days last week,-also Mrs, C. Virtue, Enniskillen. 'Neil Johnston, R.C.A.F., of Sask, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs, A. Johnston. | Sgt. Robert Smith, R.C.A.F., re- turned to Vancouver after a visit with his parents, Mr, and Mrs, C. Smith, Rev, and Mrs. R. G. Carruthers, of Toronto, and Miss Anne Carruthers, of New York, called on Blackstock friends last week on their way home after holidaying in New - Brunswick. Mr. Carruthers was our first United Church minister here. Mr. Geo. Crawford and helpers are working on the corner store. Welcome home to Thomas Mahaffy, Purple Hill, who has just returned from overseas; also to Howard Gat- chell, who has returned to his home in Burketon. Congratulations to Mr, and Mrs. E. Bradburn on the birth of a son, Donald Earl, at Port Perry Hospital. A beautiful and impressive service of Thanksgiving was held on V-J Day in St. John's. Church, with Rev. Mr. '| Simpson in charge and Rev, B., Har- rison, assisted. Services of Thanksgiving were held in all Cartwright churches on Sunday. An impromptu dance and concert were held to celebrate the victory in the community on Wednesday evening, The Wilson Novelty Band in attend- ance, and Mr. Thos. McLachlan did the calling, MRS, W. C. FERGUSON From her late residence, Liberty St., Bowmanville, there passed peacefully away, Sarah Kezia Ferguson, beloved wife of W. C. Ferguson. Deceased had been in-failing health for over a year, but suffered a stroke one week before her death, Sarah Kezia Beacock was born at Blackstock, on March 11th, 1870, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Beacock. A truly christian woman, whose 'religion was definitely personal and ever expressed by word and deed, shé became a member of the Methodist Church, Blackstock, and ville. She was united in marriage with Mr. W, C. Ferguson'and on September 28rd, 1941, they celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding. Mrs. Ferguson, of a quiet disposi- tion was always willing to help others and her cheerful nature gained for her a large circle of friénds." She gave two sons to the ministry and was her- self .a faithful and active member of later Trinity United Church, Bowman-] the church, She was a life member of the Woman's Missionary Society. Following a private service at the home, the funeral service was held at * Trinity United Church on August 10. Her minister, the Rev, J. E. Griffith, gave a beautiful and comforting nies- sage to the family and friends. Mr. Arthur Bell sang impressively "The City Four-Square".- Members of the W.M.S. attended the service in a body. "Many floral tributes testified to the esteem in which deceased-was held and included tributes from Group 7 of the W.A., Senior Dept. of Trinity Sunday School, and Blackstock Sunday School. Pallbearers were A. E. Bellman, F. ¥, Willan, S. R. James, E. S. Ferguson, Neil Mutton, W, J. Berry. Interment took place at Union Cemetery, Cad- mus, Left to mourn the passing of a dear wife and mother are her husband, one daughter, Mrs, Cecil Hill (Olga), of Blackstock, and three sons, Roy of Blackstock; Rev. Clarence of Avon- more, Ontario; and Rev. Merrill, of Angola, Africa; also three brothers, Samuel Beacock, Toronto, Arthur Bea- cock, Regina, and Will Beacock, of Hillsdale, Michigan; and two sisters, Mrs. C. Hobden (Mary) of Boston; and Mrs, A. W. Pickard (Emma), of Bowmanville, Those attending the funeral from a . distance included: Mr. Will Beacock, of Hillsdale, Mr. Fred Brown, Mrs. N. Brown, Miss Edith Brown, Orillia; Mrs, Ethel Hockeridge, Mrs. A. Stephenson, Mrs, Bert Brown, Mrs. Mary Hilliard, Mr. Geo, Houston apd Mr. Gordon' Ferguson; Toronto, Mrs. Roy Ferguson, Meadowdale, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ferguson, Guelph, and Mr. and Mrs, Gog: Clemence, Stayner, OBITUARY MRS. JAMES S. MYERS Passed away in her sleep on Mon- day morning, August 13th, 1946, in her 82nd year, Annie Lavenia McKercher was born at Weir's Mill (now Brookdale) in Uxbridge Township, September 20th, 1863, youngest daughter of the late ° Mr; and Mrs. Farquhar McKercher. She attended Public: School at Utica. In 1906 she married James S. Myers, who predeceased "her in September, 1937. For many years she was or- ganist at the Presbyterian Church; a very ardent workem.in the various branches of the church;-a very active member of 'the Red Cross. She is survived by one son, W. M, Myers, of Sudbury, and- one brother, H. B. McKercher, of Utica. The funeral service was held in the Presbyterian Church, Utica, on Aug. 16, conducted by Rev. J. A. McMillan.
