THE ONTARIO COUNTY HOL- STEIN CLUB ANNUAL MEET- IN A SUCCESSFUL EVENT. A large crowd attended the an- nual meeting of the Ontario County Holstein Club, held in the Department of Agriculture at 10.30 a.m, Tuesday, December 4. The business of the meeting was conducted with the president, R. N. Hogg, presiding. A number of Holstein men were called on to outline the activities of the year. Mr. R. Ray McLaughlin, District Director of the Canadian Holstein Friesian Association, outlined some of the work that is carried on by the Association, and stressed that county breed- ers should make recommenda- tions to Ifieldmen and Directors that might be carried to the Can- adian Association. He also stressed the importance of the improvement of type and pro- duction for export market. Mr. J. Darlington, salgsman for this district, outlined the number of cattle that had been sold from Ontario County and also empha- sized the fact that the demand for good pure bred cattle will hold hold strong for some time. Mr. Roy Ormiston, Fieldman for this district, stated that whole the numbers of cattle shown at Black and White Days might have been slightly lower than in previous years, this was off-set by the better quality of cattle exhibited. . He urged breeders to take part in Black and White Shows in the coming year, Mr. Corless Ashenhurst was appointed president for 1946, A large crowd attended the banquet held at noon and a good programe was provided, Mr. G. Clemons, Secretary of the Cana- dian Holstein I'riesian Associa- tion, Brantford, gave an-excel- lent address on his trip to South America and his contacts in this country to develop the Canadian market for Holsteins. He con- ducted a film illustrating his trip and the type of Holsteins on the farms in various countries in the South. He stated that there were two herd books for Holstein cattle in South America, one be- ing for Kuropean Holsteins, the cattle having originated from Holland and being a slightly dif- ferent type from Holsteins in Canada. The other herd book was for American Holsteins--U., S.A and Canadian. We are en- deavouring to encourage trade with South America for Cana- dian Holsteins as they are very well adapted to conditions there.
