WOMAN'S MISSIONARY SOCIETY Thé members 'of the Woman's Mis- sionary Society of the United Church held their annual banquet on Wednes- day evening, November 27th. About one hundred were present and after a supper everyone enjoyed a lovely program consisting of piano duet by Mrs, J. Dowson and Mrs. J. E. Jack- son, solos by Miss Norma Hockley and Mrs. Harold Honey, Mrs. Smith intro- duced thet guest speaker, Mrs, Wilson, a Returned Missionary from Africa. Mrs. Wilson was born in the southern part of Africa, and was sent by her father to be educated in the Azores. She later returned to her home where she married a United Church Mission- ary. Mry, Wilson gave a very inter- esting account of her work among the Afrigan people and made it even more inteYasting by showing slides of their mission field. When she returns to Africa she and her husband intend do- ing press work in procuring religious literature for the people of Africa. Card parties, which were to have been held in November, have been postponed until January, as the committee found the November season too busy. The sum of twenty-five dol- lars was voted to the use of the Public Libary. Other business details hav- ing been settled, the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Ingram in charge of the program. Miss Parker gave a most interesting and educational ad- dress on the subject of "Vitamins" Miss Helen Hayes, accompanied by Mrs. Orde, charmed the members with the beautiful "Mother Macree". Mrs. I. R. Bentley then read a very fitting article in connection with the present state of the world, and Christmas approaching, it was called "Candles to Light". The first candle being "Endurance", and the last one "Love", without which the other will not burn. This program was greatly enjoyed and appreciated. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. ASSOCIATION The Christmas meeting of the Woman's Association was held in the Sunday School room of the United Church, on Tuesday, December 3rd, at 3 o'clock. Mrs. George Jackson, the President, presiding. There was a good deal of business to attend to and reports were given by the different secretaries, after which a very inter- esting program followed. A Christmas story was read. The different parts were taken by Mrs. G. Jackson, Mrs, Bruce, Mrs. Michell, Mrs. Stouffer and Mrs. Clayton Love. A solo was sung by Mrs. Hooey in her usual pleasing mannere and the pro- gram closed with a prayer by Mrs, W. C. Smith, After the meeting a social half hour was spent and a dainty lunch served.
