(Nancy Kight) Four Brownies who have just flown ap to the Guides, attended their first Guide meeting on Wednesday, Jan.: 10th. © Forming a horseshoe, the Guides were introduced individually to . the Brownies, and the Brownies to the Captain and Lieutenant. The four new recruits were Gloria Hastings, Maureen McLaughlin, Ann Ptolemy and Helen Watson. Following this a representative of the local Association 'Mrs. E. Hutchinson, presented the Brownies with Guide purses, A number of tests and drills follow- ed which included semfphore, knots, 'bedmaking and tenderfoot tests for "the Brownies and several other new |; girls who have just jointed the Com- pany. Miss Ruby Walker, 'Regional Sec'y | for Women's Missionary Society is Guest Speaker at St. Andrew's, in Lindsay. The 'Annnual Meeting of Lindsay. Presbyterial Women's Missionary So- ciety of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, was held in Lindsay Church on Wednesday, January 10th with a good attendance. Every Auxiliary in the Presbyterial being represented. Mrs. Joseph Cathcart, President of the Presbyterial, presided at both the morning and afternoon sessions. Mrs. Cathcart opened the meeting with prayer and the singing of hymn 697. The worship service was in charge of Cresswell Auxiliary. Mrs. Broad read the Bible lesson from Romans 1:1-18. The theme of the lesson was Faith and Despair. Mrs, M. S. Ormerod offered prayer. Mrs. Ww. come- to the ladies, and emphasized that we have a most wonderful cause '| to work for that was ever known, and we have the promise that God will be with us in all our work. Mrs. Cathcart read a letter from Miss Margaret Leask, a Missionary in the Jhansi Field, India. Mrs, M. Steele, in her very concise and com- plete report stated that we find in- creased enthusiasm and a desire to advance our Missionary work. Mrs. Lunney, Young Women's and Girls' Secretary, reported. three groups, Beaverton, Woodville and Lindsay. Mission Bands have been' very ac- tive, and -Mrs.- Moore was very proud of the leaders and Mission Bands. Woodville Mission Band had the high- est standing and the picture of Dr. Jessie McBean was presented to Mrs. Shein for Woodville Band. The afternoon session opened by singing hymn 579;-and- Wick Aux- ilary taking the devotions. McCully -read-the- 37th. Psalm. theme, "Delight thyself in the Lord" was well illustrated by Mrs. McCully. Mrs. Earl Cook offered prayer. Mrs. J. H. Summerfeldt, Home Helpers Secretary, reported a decrease in members and givings.- Mrs. Mustard's report was very satisfying regarding sale of literature; but there was a de- crease in subscriptions to Glad Tid- ings.. Mrs. Ingis Jamieson reported 75 boxes of fruit sent to shut-ins. Each Auxiliary has been asked. to appoint a Literature Secretary. Mrs. F Supply Secretary, requested that money be sent in as soon as possible, and the bales to be sent by September, The Press Secretary, Mrs, J. S. Mac- Farlane, thanked the varioius news- papers for their generous space given to our Missionary work. Mrs. R. F. .Willis, Uxbridge, de- livered the records of Lindsay Presby- terial sent by Miss Gould, former Historian of Records. Mrs. Willis offered a very beautiful prayer. Miss Winnifred Allin, Life Mem- | bership Secretary, - reported a sub- stantial increase over last year--four Life Memberships were presented by Bolsover. Each Auxiliary was asked to give one at least this year. Mrs. John F. Brabazon, Treasurer, presented = very favorable "report. Total givings amounted to $8,762.19. The roll call was responded to by cach Auxiliayr in the Presbyterial. Rev. Mr. Cathcart offerd the dedi- catory prayer. Miss Ruby 'Walker, Regional Secre- tary for Women's Missionary Society, at present working in Ontario and Quebec, spoke on National Missions, touching on the work the W.M.8. is doing with Indian, Chinese, Deaconess work in our Housing areas, also in hospital visiting. Through Port work the church is demonstrating the power of the Gospel of love. Miss Walker said this is God's work, and God's work demands haste. ' _W. The three ships sailed on the latter part of November on what was 'to be the longest Korean war patrol for any U.N. destroyers. The Cayuga and the Sioux both ! broke the record by logging forty-féur days at sea. - An additional seven days were added by the Cayuga.
