Alcohol steals away the individual's capacity to think and act quickly, Alcohol Tnpairs judgment and rea- soning powers. Unfortunately I do not have more of either than I need. Alcohol makes tlie nutomobile dri- ver an unsafe driver. Nearly 50% of all accidents are attributed to al- cohol. Alcohol makes the man of great responsibilities unequal to them and so a menace to his community. An abstainer helps to make his com- munity a safer place to live in and $o 1 would choose to abstain from alcohol. Before I would take that drink I would have to consider that I owe it to my future partner to be the best person | can be. If 1 have children, I don't 'want their lives to be marred by any indulgence of mine. - Alcohol is not a normal ingredient. [t is not needed for growth or any functions of the human body at any stage. The most important effect of alcohol ig to slow" down. It doesn't improve anything we undertake to do. "An argument that some pdople put forth in favor of alcohol is that they would miss some good times if they did not join the drinking crowd and participate in social drinking. I have a real resentment against attempted social compulsion to drink, and this gives me a real pleasure in saying "No, thank you." I have a right to be different if I want to be. If I drink I may lose the good opin- ion of some of my best friends, par- ents included. ' I like to know what I am doing at . I would not ike to be told of the awkward, vulgar, and impolite things 1 did in the thoughtlessness of drink, and not know why I behaved contrary to my upbringing. After seeing a few people under the influ- ence of alcohol I would like to say STOP ....LOOK ...LISTEN . THINK. It is much smarter not to drink. ] NAAAAAAAAAAAAANAAA AANA, COOKING _SCHOOL "=. These figures were given in the regular monthly report of the Supeér- intendent, Miss Mary Bourne, pre- sented to the Board of Directors at their meeting last evening. Need More Accommodation The constant pressure on the fa- cilities of the hospital and the fact that there appears fo be no easing at an early date again emphasize to the Board the need for further accoin- modation, and much interest was shown in a report of the Property Committee regarding an extention. to the pavilion now located east of the main hospital building. The commit- tee had been asked to report on this project with the thought in mind that it might be desirable to create this additional accommodation to meet what has come to be recognized as a real emergency pending the erec- tion of a large permanent addition, which under present conditions would most certainly take two to three years to construct and equip. The Froper- ty Committee, under the chairman- ship of George Garner, "reported that another pavilion, or OE tioh to the present pavilion, could be erected to accommodate sixteen beds at a cost of approximately $26,000, and the net cost to the hospital, after allowing for government grants, might not ex- ceed $10,500. The Board discussed the matter quite fully and was of the opinion that there was a good deal of merit in this plan and asked the Committee. to study: the matter fur- ther and report back as to location and actual cost, and if necessary, the president, Cyril Waite, will call a spe- cial meeting at an early date to deal with the Committee's report. The Bodrd was advised of a bequest for the hospital from the late Col. J. I. Grierson in the sum of $1,000. An- other gift was received from Motor City Radio Cab in the amount of $21.- 45. These -were-very-much-appre- ciated. Miss Bourne announced that arran- gements had been completed for the graduation of nurses on June 12 and an outstanding speaker has been se- cured. for the occasion in the person of Dr. E. G. Hall, president of the University of Westérn Ontario. 23 nurses will be graduated on that oc- casion, ceeds in aid of the Cottage Hospital. : Apr.26 F333 000000 0 000 R00 RL RRR E rosesses rosso ses Ladies Dresses .......cccooeevivenan.
