(Advertisement) Port McNicoll's Vote In what was believed to be the larg- i est poll in the village of Port Me- Nicoll's history, the electors approved 'a Brewers Retail Store on Thursday, September 27th. The count was 379 in favour with only 82 opposed. Port McNicoll was one of the few towns in recent years to submit the single issue to the electors, a Brewers Retail Store. Iu most Local Option votes there are other ballots, covering different types of outlets, submitted _| at the same time. This was the case in Port Pergy's previous vote in 1948. submitting the Brewers Retail Store question alone was clearly demonstrated by the re- sult in Port McNicoll. The Port Perry Committee is following the same course. It is a "clear-cut" issue likely to result in a "clear-cut" decision at the polls. Port McNicoll's result can be taken as a "straw in the wind" for Port Perry. More and more residents of Ontario towns and villages are com- ing to recognize that beverages -are used more moderately in towns where. a local Brewers Retail Store is estab- lished. The citizens of Port McNicoll clearly realized this notwithstanding an all- out publicity campaign by a small 'dry' group who sought to retain a prohibition law which had long since ceased to control or restrict the sale of beverages. .
