Reeve Raps Weed Inspector County Weed Inspector Ryerson Beare of Greenbank was criticized by Reeve Ferguson Munro Brock Township last week because he issued only one court summons this year and that to a resident of Brock, who, in Mr, Munro's opinion, was not as bad an offender as hundreds of others throughout the country, Mr. Beare explained that the case in question was taken up following numerous complaints about the pro- perty and only when all efforts of per- suasion had failed. .- Warden D. B. Mec- Intyre pointed out to: the Inspector that it was also his duty to attend to all infractions of the Weed Act not registered. Mr. Beare reported that he worked 115 days, travelled 7,840 miles on the job and was paid a total salary of $1,468 including expenses. One hun- dred and seventy milés of provincial highway were sprayed on both sides for weeds and considerable brush was cut. All county roads were mowed. About 132 miles of road was sprayed. Every township in the county did cut- ting or spraying. - Mr. Beare said that the government canal at Gamebridge was badly neg- lected by its owners. Railways cut their weeds too late in the season to be effective. Weeds most prevalent in this county are: Wild Carrot, Chickory, Poison Ivy, Golden Rod, Ragweed, Canadian Thistle, Bindweed. New weeds found this year were the Small Bugloss and Common Gromwell. Much other detail is covered in Mr. Beare's report showing that one man has done as much as he could in a year on the tremendous job. of weed control "and eradication, CAREFREE Port Perry High School Gym ~ Len Clapp and 'His Orchestra Advance Sale of Tickets -- $5 per couple --OQOshawa Times- Gazette, the Yacht Club A limited supply of this Historical TN eran 2 5p" DETROIT--This building, constructed by the Detroit and: Windsor Tunnel Corporation to furnish electricity and to air-condition the. famous Detroit and Canada Tunnel, requires the services of just one engineer.
