PHONE 177 MOTOROLA -TV-| -| Pete" Sulman is from Ryerson eaxlier Electric Here 10 10 4 { The fans saw their fastest game of the season here Nov. 27 when Port Flyers, through fast passing plays, piled up their highest score of the season. O'Conner set the pace by netting three of the counters followed close by Brodie and 'Attersly with two a- piece. 'The other scorers being Cope- land, Fisher and Gibson. In repeated fast passing rushes the Flyers made good their name and Lindsay found they were just mot In the right places' to stop that puck from winding up behind Hill in' the net... The Flyers own defence and goalie were equal in all but four trys made on their net; once Hawe in the net for Port succeeded in' catching what '| seemed tobe a sure goal with just his chin and shoulder. There were few penalties in the game, in fact 8 in all, 3 to Port and 6 to Lindsay. There was one near fight but quick work by the referees soon had it under control and the play went on minus the offending players. And so with the sound of the last bell the Port fans streamed from the Gardens happy at having seen a - good fast game of hockey. Port Flyers go to. Peterboro on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd and Lindsay re- turn to Port on Friday, Dec. 4th, so if you like fast hockey we will be see- ing you there with the rest of the fans in the Memorial Gardens, Port Perry. WEEKLY CAGE REPORT The past week has been a good one for three different. age-groups of basketball players, the P.P.H.S. downing Brock H.S. 39-20, the ns. Srs. outpointing- Brock Srs. 52-37, and our local Lions taking an impressive 65-40 victory (their second) in Int. "Cc", 0.A.B.A. Despite these wins we must consider the fact that in all cases the opposition will be much stronger, and all three teams will have to continue to improve or they 'ere the play-offs roll around. And P.P.H.8. lads must' have 50 per cent at Xmas. Sinc Robertson-- who recently has been needed at home--is no longer eligible for H.S. competition--but was a star in his first O.B.A. game at Whitby Tuesday. Several of the HS. scheduled "for Oshawa. "C" loop, as they roared to a 65-40 triumph over the Whitby Panthers in Whitby on Monday night. 'Coming up with a strong 1st quarter to run up a 23-9 lead, they played heads up ball to keep well out in front the whole game. Griffen' and Waldins- perger 'led the first quarter drive for the Lions with 7 points each while Bud Warriner picked up 6. Jordan was the best man for the Panthers getting 6 points during the first 10 minutes. Whitby had their best showing in the second stanza as they counted 10 points to the visitors' and cut the margin to 32-19. During the second quarter, track star Bell of the Pan- thers potted 6 points for the home crew, with the visitors scoring, such as it was, being well scattered. In the third session, the Perryites took over, scoring 14 points, led by Jack Griffen, while the best Whitby had to offer was Jordan's brace of baskets -- the Panthers garnering a total of 8--during this time. + The final quarter saw the home lads switch to man-to-man defense in an attempt to shake off their scor- ing slump and while they did tally 12, the Lions came up with 17 points, coming out on the long end of a 65- 40 count at the final whistle. Dur- ing this final quarter, George Rodd finally beat the scoring jinx that the Whitby court had held on him, to sink 8 baskets and give a total of 8 for the night--4 better than he could manage during his high school days or two years ago when he was a mem- ber of the first Lions team. How- ever the lad who stole the show dur- ing the last 10 minutes was Fort Perry rookie Sinc Robertson, who playing in his first OBA game, sct up several baskets and counted one THE PORT, PERRY STAR, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8rd, 1968--5 gv Lions Win Again | Triumph Over Whitby Panthers himself. Jordan with 5 and McLeod with 4 led the homesters' final drive. . In all fairness to Whitby Panthers, it should be noted that they were play- ing with very little pre-season prac- tice and before play-off time they will be a strong contender, The Panthers have most of their seasoned veterans back, plus the addition of speedy Bell, who undoubtedly will attract plenty of attention, both at home and away. From the winners' standpoint, every member lon the team hit the scoring column, led by Griffen with(17. This coupled with a strong team defensive effort, indicates a better balance than Port Perry has had in past seasons. Port Perry Flyers Downed 10-6 The Eagles neted three goals in the first period to lead the Flyers in the scoring throughout the game. Mas- ters neted two at the beginning of the second period but Port were unable to stay with the Eagles, mainly because of penalties which made them short handed and thecsecond period ended 9 to 3 as Myles succeeded in gaining another for the Flyers. The third period saw O'Conner net two for the Flyers only to have the Eagles sink .another and while the Flyers gained. one more on a pass from Romanuk to Copeland who neted it, the bell rang ending the game in favour of Peterboro Eagles. Dropping _ this game puts Lindsay in Eirst place with Port and Peter- boro tieing for second, so Friday ; nights game with Lindsay, here, will no doubt see the Flyers back in there playing their best to get back lost ground. See you there. IL. W. Parkinson The highlight of the week for local cage fans has been the formation of the Lakeshore Amateur Basketball Association (affiliated with tht O.A. B. A.) and the inclusion in this league of the Port Pery Lions.
