Celebrates 8th Birthday The celebration of the 98th birthday a was celebrated recently at the home of her sister, Mrs. Hershel Stone, of Little Britain when a large number of relatives and friends spent the af- ternoon and evening with her in hon- our of this unique occasion. Miss Snelgrove was the gracious recipient of many beautiful floral tributes, presents, cards and good wishes, following which a sumptious luncheon was spread on the lawn by the ladies- which was-enjoyed by all. After lunch the guests retired to the living room where a short program _ Jeonsisting of vocal and instrumental numbers and readings was given, and a very pleasant time was spent in re- miniscing. Potato Club Reorganized The Ontario County 600 Bushel Potato Club has been re-organized for 1954 with 26 members in the compe-} tition. This is the largest mer mbex- ship that this high yicld club has bad for some years, such' Club member is required to plant a minimum of one acre of po- tatoes and he may use any means at his disposal to produce the greatest yield of high quality potatoes. EUNICE M. HUNTER, Teacher. min Obituary MR. JOEL C. MILLER The sudden passing of Mr. Joel C. Miller-of Manchester came as a shock to his family and the community. Mr. Miller, eldest son of Robert Miller nad Melissa Crone, was born at. Zephyr, Scott Township on Octo- ber 6th, 1873. He lived in Zephyr un- til he moved to Epsom, where he mar- ried Gertrude. F.- Claughton in 1900. The deceased spent all of his married life in Reach Township, retiring to Manchester six years ago. Mr. Miller was a- member of the United Church. - Predeceased by a son and daughter, Ralph and Dorothy, Mr. Miller is sur- vived by his widow, three daughters, Vera (Mrs. Harold- Honey, Seagrave), Meta (Mrs. Walter Howsam) Man- chester, Retta (Mrs. Alfred Higgs) of Oshawa, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Charles- Kennedy of Cooksville and a brother, Gordon, of Sunderland. The pallbearers were three grand. children, Robert Howsam, Wayland | Drew, Ralph Honey, the husbands of two grand-daughters, Mr. Donald Car- negie, Mr. Howard Forder, and a nephew, Mr. Orley McClure. The memorial service held in A. L. McDermott's Chapel at Port Perry was conducted by the Rev. H. H. Mut- ton of Manchester and the Rev. B. D. Armstrong of Port Perry. A Pleasant Surprise On Friday evening June the 26th a number of relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kerry gathered at their home and gave them a complete surprise, it being the occasion of their 35th Wed- ding - Anniversary. The two daughters, Muriel and Audrey Woon graced the dining room tablé with flowers, bon hon dishes of candy and a lovely-dee orated Wedding Cake, . During the evening a few numbers weré rendered by Arnold Kerry, Diane and Margaret Fisher. Each husband in turn told how and where he first met his wife, which was quite amus- ing. The bride and groom were then presented with a lovely mantle mirror. A 'bountiful lunch was served and the enjoyable evening came to a close with everyoné wishing Harold & Ann. many more years of happy married life to-gether.
