Mis. Donald Fraser of New Toronto enter- tained in her home for Toronto friends and relatives at a miscellancous show- er. The bridal attendants, Mrs. Don- ald Steven, Toronto, Mrs. David Brun- ton and Miss Nancy Kight, Port Perry were hostesses in Mrs. David Brunt- on's home at a Kitchen Shower. Mrs. Cleve Kight and Nancy entertained in their home for the girls of Wendy's Sunday School class to give her a mis- cellaneous shower. The bride and groom-to-be were guests of honour at a buffet supper given by Dr. and Mrs. M. B. Dymond in their home. Mrs. Arthur Brunton and Wendy received many Port Perry, Oshawa and Brook- lin friends in their home at a Trous- seau Ten. Mrs. Paul Diamond and the bridal attendants assisted in receiv- ing_the guests, Pouring tea were Mrs. Wilmot Walker, Mrs. Lawson Honey, Mrs. M. B. Dymond and Mrs. Kenneth Scott. The Misses Pauline and Noreen Tease and Miss Patsy Midgely served the guests with the dainty lunch prepared by the Even- ing Guild of the Church. IL The September meeting of the local W.I. was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon, September 6th. Mrs, Paul Diamond, Vice-President, had charge of the meeting. Mrs. N. Williams read the Scripture reading which was followed by repeat- ing the Mary Stewart Collect in uni- son, Mrs. W. Chapman, treatiiter, gave a detailed report on the finances, The most important item on the agenda was brought in by Mrs. Bryant re: "The Cancer Dressing Project. This most important work will be resumed on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 18th, in the room set apart for this purposé¢ on the second floor of the Post Office. All the wo village and surrounding district are asked to help. Parcels of used white material suitable for bandages may be left at Gerrow's Bakery, and are urgently needed. = Any woman who can give an afternoon to this work is to come. Mrs. G. Irwin gave an interesting paper on the first fall fair held in Port-Perry and the prices in vogue at that time. She traced the growth of the fair until the present time. ~ Conveners reporting were Mrs, E. Hutchinson, Mrs. Colbear, and Mrs. Moase, and Mrs. Barthau gave an ac- count of the Indian Cemetery exca- vated in Scarborough. Braham who delivered a valuable message in his friendly manner. .Scugog choir of- mixed voices rendered several beautiful anthems. In the evening a former village face in the person of Rev. Chas. Clarke of Frankford was our guest speaker. He too left us with good worthwhile thoughts. It was very pleasant to have our own pastor Rev, R. H. Wylie with us. The evening music consisted of the local choir. We are glad to learn Mr, Jim Hope is recovering from being injured at Port Perry fair as a result of a pony swerving from the track knocking Jim down. Medical attention diag- nosed Jim suffering from shock and severe bruises, Mr, and Mrs. Sam Oyler have re- turned home by plane after a two week visit with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Doupe, Seattle, U.S.A. They also called on Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Doupe out west. A number of interested ladies ga- thered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hodgins where Mrs, Bill Peel played hostess to a miscellaneous shower in honour of a bride-to-be Miss Eileen Cherry.. After the many parcels were un- wrapped the bride graciously thanked the givers for the loyely useful gifts. A dainty lunch was enjoyed by all present, Our village folk who were guests at the Hodgins-Cherry wedding on Sat- urday included Mr. and Mrs. Hodgins and their family, Mr. and. Mrs. Bruce Snelgrove, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Parkin- gon, Mr. and Mrs, Barry Howey, Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Peel, and Mr. Wm. McCrea. Mt. and Mrs. B, Snelgrove and fa- nily had her mother Mrs. Wm. Jef- ois and Mr, and Mrs, A, Harper and family of" Saintfield on Sunday and they all were present at our special services. Mr. and Mrs. M, Pugh enjoyed a brief vacation in Portland area. Miss E. Dodd of Port Perry with Mr, and Mrs. L. Beacocks. Mrs, Gordon Hicks and Mrs. Jack Chisholm of Toronto were guests of Miss Spence and. Mrs. Smith last Wednesday, Mr, and Mrs, W. Webb of Haliburt- on are spending a portion of their holidays with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hunter and other relations. We were pleased to meet Mrs. Smith formerly Miss Alice Wagg, Uxbridge, who attended our services on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Timlick, Toronto with Miss F. Holman over the week- end to attend our Church anniversary services. The Woman's_Association met Wed- nesday evening August 29th in the Sunday School room. The president Mrs. Grant Hunter presided and open- ed meeting with Hymn, followed by prayer and scripture reading from Psalm 27. Lesson Thoughts read by Mrs, Luke. Treasurer's report showed proceeds from supper in Church and a nice bal- ance on hand. During the business period, a motion. carried that kitchen committee have locks put*on the.cup- boards. Further discussion re the Port Perry Fair booth. Two visits reported. A thank-you note, Hymn, and the: Mizpah benediction closed the meeting. Group 4 served lunch. Donations of - $1.60 were received with thanks.
