Hospitals have, and are continually, making improvements and innovations to eliminate the hazard of explosion in an operating room. Explosion-proof electric switches, shielded and guarded lights, use of mirrors to reflect light and replace headlamps, elimination of cauteries and the installation of con- ductive flpors are now commonplace in most hospitals. _ Conductive floor acts in much the same way as the small chain which hands from an oil or gasoline truck and drags onto te highway. It is made of a substance or material through which electricity can pass with little or no resistence. Its pur- pose is to lead or conduct human or static electricity out of the operating room and to be grounded harmlessly into thd earth. Now even the patient being ¢gperated upon is "grounded" so that thy explosive risk is lessened still more. i Today, because or man's ingenuity and inventive ability, fires and ex- plosions in the aperating rooom of a hospital have become a rarity, indeed.
