Congratulations are in order for Mr. and Mrs. Keith Howsam on the arrival of their new son, and also congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cressman (nee Helen Baylis) on the arrival of their baby girl. Last Saturday evening a number of our community turned out to at- ----tend- the skating party -in-Sunerland- Arena and the Pie Social in the church basement. About thirty-five attended the Social. Kerry sold around 15 pies which made the Pilot Class $33.00. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sommerville left on Saturday morning for a 6 week vacation in Florida. On Monday morning Mr. and Mrs. Fleet Beare left for a trip to Cali- fornia. . At the congregational meeting held in the church last week plans were formulated for the re-modelling of the auditorium of the Church prior to the 60th anniversary to be held in June. - If anyone has any clippings or stories of olden days that would help complete the history of our church the committee would be glad to receive them. Admission: Adults 3be., Children 26c. Scugog Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reader were guests of honour at a surprise family gathering last Sunday, held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ash- bridge. The entire family were pre- sent to enjoy the day with their par- ents in celgbration of Mr. and Mrs. Reader's Wedding Anniversary and Mrs. Reader's Birthday, which occur- red earlier in the month. They were presented with an electric mixette. The Head Farm Forum met at the Church last Monday evening -to see a film given by Mr. Charles Reesor of Port Perry. It proved very interest- ing to the group, which was not as large as expected, due, we imagine, to the poor weather. The next meet- ing will be held at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Don Ashbridge. : The Head W. A. will meet next Wednesday afternoon at the home of Ethel Redman; with Mabel Graham's group in charge. tt SY We were very sorry that the heat- ing system in the Head Church de- cided to "act up" last Friday evening, and made the evening rather unpleas- ant for the elders and Mr. Braham who were holding their meeting there. However all is now well again, and the church has had another thorough cleaning, so we trust our gatherings from now on will go more smoothly. Our thanks to the hard working W.A. members who made the church interior shine once more. 4 Causeway Langs - PORT PERRY OPEN BOWLING Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday Blackstock The Mission Band met on Tuesday with eighteen children and two ladies present, Nancy Dorrell, presiding. After the opening hymn, purpose and prayer, Mrs, Hill gave the worship talk and prayer. Bob Kyte took up the offering and all sang the offertory. Minutes and roll call were read by Lorna Wright. The following pro- gram-was given: reading, "The lit- tle read tulip" by Judy Swain; reading "Little Boys Dog" by Betty Brad- burn; reading, "The Three Silly Kit- tens by Brian Mountjoy; reading, 'The Story of Lavender" by Elizabeth Thompson. Mrs. Romeril told of the different things and showed pictures of people, places, fiuit, ete. in Jamaica which all really enjoyed. The meet- ing closed with hymn and benediction. Several members of the Women's Institute and their husbands gathered in the Community Hall Wednesday evening and enjoyed themselves at a Pot Luck Supper as a way of cele- brating the 60th anniversary of the founding of Women's Institutes in Ontario. Later in the evening more gathered for an evening of euchre, The winners were Mrs. F. Hodgson, Port Perry and Mrs. F. Staniland for ladies and for the gents Keith VanCamp and Lorne Thompson. Wednesday night the Pee Wee hockey team of Port Perry and the Blackstock Bantams had a game in the arena here, which resulted in a score of 5-3 in favour of Port Perry. Congratulations to Lloyd Wilson on attaining First Class' Honors on Grade I Theory examinations, On Wednesday Evening 12 couples of the United Church met in the Sun- day School room and decided to hold a Couples Club meeting the last Wed- nesday of each month. Mr, and Mrs. Jim Marlow were appointed secretar- ies, The object of the Club is to be a social evening with some serious dis- cussion. 'They decided the first pro- ject to be the purchase of-linoleum for the nursery room. Any couples of the church are welcome, The regular meeting of -the W.A. of St. John's Anglican Church was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday. After the opening Mrs. Shemilt was in charge of the devotional. The cor- respondence was read by the secretary. | Thank you notes from Mrs, Darcy for the get well card she had received while in Port Perry Hospital, also her thanks to the individual members who had remembered her. Six cards in- cluding get-well and sympathy had been sent out during the past month. Roll call was answered by nineteen members and the birthday box receiv- ed a donation from Mrs. J. Hamilton. The president reported three carloads had enjoyed a wonderful evening with the Bowmanvville Branch on their re- cent visit to hear the splendid address by Dr. T. H. Dustan on furlough from India. President also reported all ar- rangements for the World's Day of Prayer being held in the Anglican Church, March 8th, had been made and the W.A. decided to pay for the pro- grams instead of taking it from the Day's offering as is customary. Mrs. Bone stated the new Study Book "East from Berma"" with an in- troductory skit in which she was as- sisted by Mrs, Fletcher, Mrs. W, Van- Camp and Mrs. Shemilt. At close of the meeting lunch was served by Group three with Mrs. George Staniland as convener. The February meeting of the 0.N.O. Club was held at the home of Mrs. Kathleen Dorrell on Thursday night. Opened with Minutes and business. Club voted to send $25.00 to the Port Perry Hospital to help replenish the supply .of linen. A note was to be sent to the Barbershoppers asking for them to come to Blackstock sometime in October. After much discussion it was decided to have a dance March 23rd, also another skating party to be arranged as such a good time was enjoyed at the previous one. 'Table cloths belonging to the O.N.O. are to be kept at the home of Mrs. Doris Marlow. Roll call was answered with a new picture from each girl to bring the scrap book up-to-date. Next months roll to be an Irish joke. An interesting contest was held by the hostess with Mrs Norma VanCamp winning after a draw. Refreshments were served by the hostess and group, bringing another happy evening to a close. The next meeting to be held at the home of Mrs. Florence Collins. Don't forget your joke. ' : The 0.N.O. Valentine Dance held on > February 16th was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Prize winners were: Spot dance. Johnny and Lois Grieves; Elimination Dance, Mr. and Mrs. Wally Wright; Clothes Hanger Dance, Neil Malcolm and © Gwen Thompson, The Lucky ¢offee cup was held by Miss Tyrrell. A very good crowd attended the Firemen's Picture show in the Re- creation Centre Friday night. They plan to have another on March 16th. Mr. and Mrs Wes Pearce attended a family gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. Pearce on Tuesday even- ing in honour of Mr. John Pearce's 92nd birthday. " "Rev. P. Romeril and Mr. I. Thomp- son attended Presbytery in Oshawa on Wednesday. A Mrs. Ernest Larmer and Mrs. Cecil Hill attended the W.M.S. Prebyterial in Whitby on Thursday.
