>i TI JER BLACKSTOCK A good many ladies spent a pleasant time with the Brownies in the Com- munity Hall on Monday evening, June 10th, First, the Brownies held their regular meeting and the five following girls received their Golden Bar---Grace Feddema, Shirley De Jong, Linda Venning, Shirley McCoy and Marlene Tomchishin. They each Brownie es- corted her mother and friends to view the display and purchase what they wished from the "White Elephant" table, after which a very dainty and bountiful buffet luncheon, was served, and a pleasant visit. $52 was realized from the sale and luncheon, which will be spent for some thing for the chil- dren's ward of Community Hospital, Port' Perry. What clothing and toys were not sold were taken to the Sal- vation Army the next day. Twenty ladies and seven children attended the W.M.S. at the home of Mrs. Roy McLaughlin on Wednesday afternoon, June 12th, President Mrs. Ernest Larmer opened the meeting with a poem. After the singing of a hymn Mrs, Gordon Strong gave a fine , devotional paper entitled "The Four Anchors" and offered prayer. The customary business was dealt with and several thank you notes read. Mrs. John Scott gave the chapter of the - Study Book. "The Future is Now". Mrs. John Carnaghan gave a reading, "If you ask me, cleariness is not al- ways next to Godliness", Mrs. J. A. Johnston read "The Senior Citizen" Mrs, E. Larmer conducted a couple of contests on men and women of the Bip'e. A dainty lunch was served by the group with Mrs. Carl Wright con- vener, Mrs. Ray McGill entertained thirty ladies of the Bowling Club and her neighbours on Wednesday night in honour of Miss Bert Freelen. A very interesting program of readings, con- tests and games was enjoyed. Then Mrs. Velma Bailey read an! address and Miss Joyce Venning and Mrs. Me- Gill presented Miss Freelen with a steam iron, and electric clock, bracket can opener and other miscellaneous gifts, A bountiful lunch was served and a social time enjoyed. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Keith VanCamp on the birth of a daughter in Oshawa hospital, June 11.
