Letter From ,(Continued from page 3) since the first arrangements were started that this union would have the blessing of the Lord and what we asked for of their Heaveenly Father was evident as Rebecca and Dinker knelt, after the ceremony, for the prayer of blessing -- the Presence of the Lord was indeed in our midst. On the porch of the church the guests gathered around the bride and groom and his shirt was .tied to the end of her sari with someone's hand- kerchief. Then before they started down the church steps each had to 'take' the other ones name, It is not the custom in India for a man and wife to use each other's name after the wedding day although modern India is changing this custom as many others. Dinker's verse was "London has a tower and Rebecca is my flow- er". Her's translated (he gave his in English -- her's was in Marathi) "ameya sharlet besle rajhas pekshi|§ Dinkerravatse nave gete 'devdut pen- gati"--doesn't make too much sense in English (the king bird sat on your school and Dinker's name is angel's in the midst). That is David's very loose translation. Dinker's remark was "I'll try to live up to that". From the church everyone proceed- ed to the bungalow where tea, Indian sweets and doughnuts were served whilé a friend of the groom's opened the wedding gifts. A brass water bucket, brass' and glass drinking glasses, brass pots and pans, brass plates and china cups and saucers, a quilt, towels, a pillow and pillow cov- ers and a framed Marathi Bible verse. One of the largest gifts. was from Pyarabai, the sweeper lady, whose two grand sons Dinker. has worked with for two hours each day for al- most a year as he has taught these two youngsters the 3 R's. This evening everyone is Yai visiting the later, there may be a sing- song in the church. Tomorrow, a new day and a new life starts for Rebecea- bai and Dinker Swarge. May our prayers follow them as they begin the walk together, witnessing to. Hindu For the Most Tasty Treats in Baking : Phong 32W, Delicious Tempting Food made fresh each day.
