If it were known that' Port Perry was a modern Progressive town con- taining ALL facilities. for week-end shopping a tremendous percentage of these cottagers would make Port Perry their ONE-STOP: shopping centre. LEGAL STORES DRIVE OUT ILLEGAL OUTLETS It is a known fact that when legal Ontario Government Stores move in- to a community, ILLEGAL OUTLETS move out. Out of business. We don't know if there are any ille- gal outlets in Port Perry, but we do know of a town of similar size that boasts 26,--twenty-Six illegal sources open day or night for adults or teen- agers, boys or girls. y Legal Government Stores sell ONLY TO ADULTS; They sell only in sealed packages for home use; they operate in day time only and never on Sun- day's. AND «what is even better, their establisment in a town: invariably drives out ALL illegal, illicit outlets, Officials know this is a fact. DEMOCRATIC FAIR-PLAY As you know, many Port Perry people make frequent trips to govern- ment store towns, This takes: time, costs extra money and sometimes re- sults in late homeeomings, to say nothing of hazardous driving in all kinds of weather. : Permitting establishment of legal stores has NEVER increased. the use of these beverages. Homes that do not care to use it will still carry on as they have in the past, and can ignore the Government Stores' existence. BUT, the large half of our populi- tion that sees no harm in moderate use will be able to puréhase it, under the law, at less inconvenience and hazard. THESE ARE THE FACTS Don't listen to false and mislead- ing statements being circulated in some quarters. Beverage rooms are not on the ballot and they definately eawnot come into Port Perry as a result of this vote. -- Paid Advertisement RETEST Hy Bu SRE LF a IER GRR er a a NA a 4 IY Feria --4PAID;ADVERTISEMENT -- 90% of Businessmen ay "YE At a recent meeting of a number of Port Perry, busiiess and professional people, Mr. John Orde, a local businessman, was elected chairman ofthe. Citizens' Committee. The purpose of this committee is to present to the eitiiohs of Port Perry fhe advantage of having properly: controlled. Government Stores in Port erry. 89 Sa tind The following business men and woihien who have signified their support ug" in this matter by affixing their signatures .to this document, feel that Government Stores in Port Perry would increase assessment and generally . stimulate 'business. The time has come, in order for: us:to compete with larger shopping centres who have these facilities, that we in turn must be in the same com- petitive position. Therefore we affirm the necessity of having properly con- trolled Government retail stores in Port Perry. J Orde Marine Iyan Gray Cartage John Orde r Rn A Taylor's b¢. to $1:00 Se Robert S.
