Boy Scout News The "Building Fund" for an exten- sion to the Scout hall was substantial- ly increased last Saturday by the direct efforts of Beare Motors who turned the gross receipts from their car wash service for that day over to the fund. Special thanks to Storey and Bill and the boys who helped with the work. It is gratifying to see our business- men continue to lead in the way of good will and support to community efforts. The section of our local Scout Group known as the Group Committee have organized a finance committee con- sisting of representatives from the Scout Mothers' Association; Guide Mothers' Association; the Group Com- mittee; a Guide Father and a Brownie I"ather Association, so that each sec- tion of each group is represented. Looking at this committee as a whole it is made up of sponsors of the Girl Guides Association and sponsors of the Boy Scout Association with a common purpose which is to ensure the success of the building fund cam- paign. This can be accomplished by sug- gesting and helping to plan remunera- time activities for the various sections of the groups individually and jointly. Teen Town By Danny Reesor The first of a series of two Satur- day evening dances in the Public School is reported to have been at- tended by some 40 to 50 teenagers which was smaller than usual. It was pleasing to have Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith of Port Perry chaperone the dance which was convened by Joanne Buller and Wayne Venning. The teenagers in their socks really clean- ed the floor by dancing to the records selected by Bob Huntley. Guests were present from Oshawa and Toronto. Broom dance; Joanne Buller and Barry Fletcher; Elimination dance, Carol Beare and Hillis Wilbur; Spot ning; Freeze Dance, Sharon Haugen and Bruce Taylor; Squat dance, Nancy Foster and Bruce Taylor. During the evening our president, Wayne Venning, presented Bill Har- rison with $100 in cash as our dona- tion to the Port Perry Minor Hockey Club which Bill was representing. It was de- cided to have our bazaar on Nov. 30 and invite the neighbouring W.Al's and it- was decided -that Sunday, Nov. 24 was to be observed as M. and M. All Teen Town mem- bers and those who attend the Teen Town dance on Friday, Nov. 29th may be given a ticket upon their admission 'entitling them to get in to the Scout dance at a reduced rate. This rate will be the difference between the Scouts admission price and the Teen Town admission. Teen Town will then give their takings to the Scouts. The teenagers that have attended the Teen Town dance must, however, pre- sent their ticket to the doorman at the Scout dance in order to gain ad- mission at this special price. This means there will be two dances for the price of one and we may all give a hand at helping the Scouts. (b) The sum of ten dollars was vot- ed to the Hockey Club. (c) Members decided to have a pot luck lunch, at the Extension Course, "Aids To Effective Speaking" to be held, Monday, November 25th, at Mrs. Irving Boyd's home, Time 10 am. to 4 pm. Members are asked to keep this date in mind. (d) A decision was niade to give treats to the patients at Fairview Lodge, on Valentine's Day, rather than Christmas Day, as we have in the past. At the conclusion of the business period, we all joined in a rousing sing song. Mrs. F. Raines, then favored us with two fine reading ne for Remembrance Day entitled -- "Little White Crosses of Vimy" and "The Old Wooden Tub" by Edgar Guest. The meeting closed with the "Queen". The Honeydale W.IL. chartered a bus for the Central Ontario Area Conven- tion, Royal York Hotel, for the Wed- nesday afternoon and evening ses- sions. They put on their skit "Hats of To-Morrow" in the evening. All report a good time. Junior Farmers' The Ontario County public speak- ing contest and debate will be held at the regular meeting of the Port Perry Junior Farmers on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 8.30 p.m. The topic for debate is "Resolved that farm people are losing their independence." Members from Beaverton, Brooklin, Uxbridge, Port Perry clubs will be taking part. A lunch will be served and the meeting will conclude with a dance.
