Mrs. Allan Booth, treasurer expain- ed the balance sheet for the year end 19567, She mentioned that all interest had been paid as guaranteed on de- posit accounts of members and organ- izations, all expenses had been paid' and the net profit was_available for interest on share accounts. A motion was entertained and carried that the Manchester Community Credit Union declare a dividend fer the year 1957 for share accounts of 21%. The guest speaker was 8. Bruce McCutcheon, president: of Dundalk Credit Union. The outstanding suc- does over a million dollars of business a year was outlined by the speaker. The Credit Unions has so grown in our district said Mr. McCutcheon that there is seldom a burial without' a claim on the credit union insurance. Three years ago a maximum loan was cancelled for a member of the Dundalk Credit Union when a widow was. handed back the $10,000 mortgage which the credit union had held on her husband's store. Mr. McCutcheon said that the story of the Manchester Credit Union as he had seen it, was practically the same as that of Dundalk which union is now 15 years old and Manchester with three years experience was certainly off to a very good start and would climb to the million dollar mark with the quality of members which they | friendly talk. cess of this credit union which now. have, speaker Mr. Holtby thanked the guest for his informative and Guests were present from Stouff- ville Credit Union and were presented to the membership. " Thiee directors were to be elected; with Mrs. Hamer and Robert Walker each completing, their three years both were re-elected and Mr. Cecil Disney was a new director elected. Mr. John Hamer was reelected for a second three-year term on the credit commit- tee. Junior Farmers at Jerry Emm, Ted Lamb and Hugh Dobson, The panel felt that acci- dents were caused by carelessness and too much haste, and it would be less costly to try and take more time and avoid accidents. Following are some of the suggestions made by the panel to help prevent accidents on the farm--Keep power take-off safety shields in place; be watchful working around cattle and when leading cattle with a rope wind the end in a large loop and never wind the rope tightly around the hand for extra grip; a foot slipping from tractor clutch pedal and from tractor drawbar is a cause of accidents; keep ' obstructions from stairs and all stairs should have a handrail, The panel finally agreed that safety campaigns such as the "Rural' Safety Driving Week" recently promoted by the Fed. of Agriculture did help to reduce accidents, Wesley produced figures which showed that safety campaigns in certain states in the U.S.A. reduced accidents in those states, ~ In'the business part of the meeting, Hugh Dobson was'chosen as one of the delegates to the Junior Farmer Con- « ference at Guelph on March 14, 16 and 16, The meeting concluded with a lopch, 10 to 40 feet.
