United Church Evening Auxiliary Tén members of the Evening Auxil- iary braved the heavy snow to attend the meeting at the home of Mrs. How- ard Challig, on Tuesday, February 10. The meeting was opened by reading the 'Aim and Object of the W.M.S." in unison. . - Mrs. Wesley Lane read the minutes and called the roll. She also read the treasurer's report. " Mrs. Waiker opened the worship service with a meditation on the "Fel. lowship of Prayer." She read the Scripture from Ephesians 2:11.22, After singing a devotional hymn the service was closed with a prayer by Mrs. Walker, . Miss Joblin very capably dealt with the study of Mexico. She explained that Mexico is a country of contrasts; has a population of thirty million, of whom forty-three percent of her peo- ple professing the Roman Catholic faith, while less than two percent are Protestants. Miss Joblin explained how Prostestant missionaries endure persecution to minister to the needy in this land. She closed her review with prayer. The committee served a delicious lunch and the meeting was brought to a a with a time of fellowship. Scunon The sponsors of the Home and School Euchre were gratified when nine tables were in use on Thursday night, realizing proceeds of $18.00. Ladies prizes went to Mrs. R. Pogue and Mrs, G. Smith. Gentlemen's pri- zes to Mr. C. Coombe and Mr. R. Tet- low. Mrs. Edna Brekke and Mr. Keith Crozier received consolation prizes. If Scugog Hall thro' its 76 years of service could talk, it would tell of various events within its walls such as: Its first use as a meeting place for "Sons of Temperance" organized by Jas, Miller and a convention. Then School Fairs, Elections, Council meet- ings, Dances, Amateur nights, Sum- |mer Bible School, Picture nights, Christmas concerts, Parties, Euchre games, Health clinic, Political meet- ings and Church Services. Most of all it would remember the many happy couples who have entered its door to be honoured by the community and showered with gifts to help them in their new, united life. I wonder who the first couple was and how many have followed in these events! We all know the last one, namely, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Grieves, better known as Shirley & Jim. The event was Friday the 13th, which proved lucky for all who at- tended, as it was an enjoyable time for all. Before gifts were. presented supply allocation was two Christmas 18. * After this date it will be illegal to drive with 19 the 250 Agency Offices throughout the province. ly ~ NOTICE TO MOTORISTS WHO_HAVE NOT OBTAINED THEIR 1959 LICENCES Your 1958 drivers' licence and vehicle permit will expire at Midnfght, March DON'T WAIT TILE THE MARCH DEADLINE Act now and avoid inconvenience.
