The marringe to take place at St. Theresa's in Ottawa on Mon- day, April 20th, 1959, High School "At Home" By Danny Reesor At the Port Perry High School Eleventh Annual "At Home" about two hundred guests, students and friends were in attendance for the opening dance. Wes. Jackson and his orchestra provided the delightful dance music, for the evening. A re- ception line, consisting of Student Council President, Marbara Heyes, Vice-President Stephen Fralick, Miss Parker, member of the staff, Mr. G. MacDonald, principal, Mrs. G. Maec- Donald, and Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Love greeted the guests upon their arrival. It was pleasing to see such a large group of exzudents on hand for this happy occasion, The gymnasium, where the dance was held was uniquely decorated in | an Outer Space fashion. The students: derived their own renditions of such items as the gigantic space ship at one end of the floor, the anmated Ro- bot, the colourful murals of scenes depicting various ideas of life in out- er space. Strung high above the heads of the guests was a blue nett- ing depicting the sky, with stars sus- pended below it. Above the netting coloured lights were strung in a man- ner to represent stars. The commit- tee in charge, the Athletic Societies, deserve a great deal of praise for the hours of work so freely given to make the gymnasium so attractive. During the first part of the even- ing several novelty dances were held among which was a Spot Dance with Carol Ogilvie and Charlie Pavlik be- ing the winners. Mr, and Mrs, Gor- don Goode started off the Snowball Dance. Eleanor Rhetan and Archie Menzies won the "Rocket" Dance, The big' event and most popular one occurred when the girls who are students of the school at the present time and their escorts were called up- on to prominade before the judges to choose the Queen of the ball. ~ The Judges this year were: Mr. and Mrs. John Carnswith, Oshawa, Mr, and Mrs. Glenn Van Camp, Port Perry, and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Griffen, Port Perry. : The lucky girl, chosen from the stu- dents present, was Miss: Jacqueline Edwards, gowned in a pretty Baller- ina length white formal. Last year's Queen, Sharon Haugen, had the pri- veledge of crowning the Queen of the Ball for 1959. Following this cere- mony, the newly crowned Queen and her escort, John Potter, danced a solo dance. At the completion of this dance, they led the procession of cou- ples upstairs to the auditorium where a delicious lunch was served by mem- bers of the Literary Society who also prepared the lunch under the capable : supervision of Miss Parker and Mrs. Arnold Roach. The tables were de- corated in white and blue with sil- ver rockets as center-pieces. At the head table, situated on the stage, the Queen and her escort were seated, along with the judges, and members of the Student Council and their guests or escorts. Following the luncheon, Stephen Fralick took charge of a short programme of en- tertainment. The first number was a vocal number by the Grade Nine Girls Quartet, consisting of Nola Hun- ter, Carol Harvey, Ruth Milne and Margaret Terrett. The other numbers on the programme were provided by a Trio, Peter Lawrence, and Brian and Bruce Taylor. Dancing was then continued' in the .gymnasium. Lucky winners of the spot dance held in this portion of the dance were Jeanne Bright, and Ivan McKinnon. Favours for the ladies this year were in the form of tiny bars of soap do- nated by Mrs. Lorne Blakely. Everyone agreed that the Student's Council and the other student groups did a splendid job this year and the dance was very successful.
