May 7 Scugog News Tuesday evening the sound of ratt- ling tea-cups and gay chatter mingled when 70 Island people, after an ev- ening of bowling, enjoyed lunch in the Head Memorial Tea-Room, It was a privilege and pleasure to serve so many guests from the Centre and Foot. This venture netted the Guid- es and Brownies approx. $40, The Head Euchre Club had another pleasant evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orval Heayn. The atten- dance was low but prizes numerous due to a small number of parties this year. High prizes were awarded to Joyce and Alvin Heayn; Dorothy and Laverne Martyn. Low scores were recognized for Betty & Nelson Read- er; Don Gerrow and Reta Wilkinson. Scarcely a week passes without some Island home being saddened by the loss of a relative or former Island associate. Recent bereavements were Dr, Clarence Henders, Mrs. Isaac Ploughman of Campbellford and Mr, Harold Redman of Oshawa, who was the husband of Joyce Reader. Through our stamp collecting we have learned of the interest in our local news and activities from read- ers in Acton, Toronto and Manitoba. One lady even spent 2% hours ga- thering stamps for us. This gesture of good will and a desire to help in any way is appreciated and spurs us on to greater efforts, } Another former resident who con. tributed years of service to the Ia. land has given a donation toward the Head Centennial. We thank you. The Trustee Board of the Head Church has begun active plans for re- pairs and renovation. Two weeks hence, they require a group of men to remove earth from the foundation for further operations. The date will be at your convenience. A former resident, Mrs. Minnie (Ham) Real, now of Port Perry is sent Best Wishes for her 90th birth- day to-day. Her sister Mrs. Mabel Turner of Manitoba is with her for the occasion. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Redman on the birth of their second son. At present we report Mr. John Pearce's condition of health much the same as during the past week. The Guides are looking forward to their next meeting when they attend fn full uniform and official enrol- ment begins, Evening Auxiliary (continued from front page) The need for leaders in the local church was also stressed. The treasurer reported forty six dollars and twelve cents in the treas- ury. This amount does not include the Easter offering. The worship service was opened by a call to worship read by Helen Ba- thie. Miriam Price led in prayer and read the Scripture from Luke's Gos- pel, chapter ten, the story of the Good Samaritan. Helen read a comment on the par- able after which Miriam read an ap- popriate poem and Helen closed the worship with prayer. Joan Godley reviewed the chapter on the Caribean area, She gave an historical sketch of the West Indies from the time of the Spanish conquest to the present time. Although the religion of the majority is Roman Ca- tholic, Protestant missionaries have been working on the islands since 1701. ' The meeting was brought to a close with the benediction, after which a delicious lunch was served. Looking for a Tempting Dessert?
