Seventy-five or more relatives and friends of the McLaughlin Clan as- sembled in the Community Hall Sat- urday night in honour of Mr, and Mrs, Edward Reid of Hamilton, formerly Joyce Wright, Oshawa, who were married recently. Mrs, Roy McLaughlin and Mrs, Harold McLaughlin were Co-Hostess- es for this "miscellaneous shower, at which the Young Couple received a beautiful collection of gifts for which they expressed grateful appreciation. A short programme consisting of Piano Solos -- "Peggy O'Neil" and "Somewhere over the Rainbow" were played by Donna McLaughlin, = Neil Bailey gave a reading "Wives" and Patsy, Jim and John McLaughlin of Columbus presented a Puppet Show; "A Day at School". Lunch was ser- ved. The younger folk enjoyed dan- cing with music provided by Mrs. Fred Griffin, Mrs. Herb Taylor,: Roy McLaughlin and Gilbert Marlow. The older folk had a real good time re- newing acquaintances. Eighteen Boy Scouts and three leaders paraded to service in the Uni- ted Church Sunday morning. The Pastor Rev. The trophy for Good Sportsmanship is being a- warded Mr. Geo. Blythe but he was unable to be present. Enniskil- len Sr. team won the Trophy for the highest number of points during the year, and.each received a small tro- phy. Geo. Fisher spent a few days with Merlin Bailey in Montreal last week, Mr, Orr Vennings sale 'on Thurs- day was considered quite successful, The Vennings moved to their new home in Bowmanville Saturday and the Bumas to the farm vacated by the Vennings, Mrs. Fred Bailey was home for the week-end. She has spent the winter with her daughters in Janetville and Oshawa and returned to Oshawa with Mr. and Mrs. S. Dawson on Sunday evening. Mesds. S. VanCamp; L. Byers; M. Graham; E. Bradburn attended the Women's Institute Short Course on "Choosing and Using Fabrics" at Nestleton Tuesday. } Mr. Harold Martyn attended the funeral of his Uncle Mr. Edgar Strutt of Burketon in Bowmanville, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Harris and Mr. and Mrs. M. Graham accompanied Mr. J. J. Flett of Bowmanville to Fenelon Falls on Thursday and attended the funeral of their uncle Mr. W. J. Flett. Mrs. John Scott went to Toronto Saturday for a week. She expects to attend the Anglican W.A. Annual on Monday through Wednesday. Mesds. M. Colley; John Hamilton; Tom Gra- ham; T. H. Shemilt; J, A. Anglican Notes The sun shone brightly for our an- nual Rogation Service last Sunday. A large congregation took part in the blessing of the seed and soil, At the end of the Communion service, the congregation and Mr. Fuller proceed- ed outdoors in front of the church where soil and seed were scattered while the blessing was pronounced. Packets of seeds were given the chil- dren to take home and plant. Most of the children sat up front with their Sunday School teachers at last week's service. We hope everyone is planning to attend the Ascension Day Communion and supper tonight (Thursday) at 6.30 and 7 p.m. The Evening Guild held a success- ful rummage sale with bake table and tea last Saturday. They made over $90. on the project. The Men's Club held a meeting in the form-of a chicken feed last night at the church hall. The members of the Girls' Auxiliary together with their leader Mrs. Baker had an enjoyable. outing last Satur- day when they went to Barrie for the Spring Festival. They went by bus, together with Mrs. Fuller's G.A. from Brooklin, in the morning. There were 500 G.A. girls from all over Toronto Diocese there. In the morning the girls heard a panel discussion led by Mrs. Haslen of the Elizabeth Fry So- ciety, on the study book topics for G.A--"The Family", "The Offender", "The Aged", "The Immigrant" and "The Sick". Members of the panel were the 6 girls who will represent the Diocese at the Dominion Confer- ence at Camp Pontiac. After lunch and a short church ser- vice at Trinity Church, the girls saw Bishop Snell present 10 girls with rings of honour for outstanding work. Then the leaders attended a special conference - while members of the G. A. staff from Toronto led the girls in entertainment including singing, films and games. Badges were pre- sented and our Port Perry girls all received their Cooking Badge. A challenge cup for outstanding G.A. work was presented to Thornhill G.A. and certificate for 2nd and 8rd. The girls modelled things they had made and prizes were awarded for these also. The Festival ended about 4.80 p.m. Congratulations to our G.A. girls and their leaders for their in- terest in G.A, work and for their ef- forts in winning the Cooking badge. Rev. Mr. Pelletier will take our Morning Prayer service and preach to us next Sunday, May 10th. Rev. Mr. Fuller will be at Aurora taking a Christinn Community Conference from Friday to Sunday this week-end. This is another in the series of conferences of which Mrs. Fuller took one two weeks Ago.
