First Farm Accident Figures Reported Detailed information on the acei- dent picture on Ontario Farms for the first three months of the Farm Acci- dent Survey is now being reported to agricultural Répresentatives, states T. R. Hilliard, Director of Extension, Ontario Department of Agriculture, under whose supervision the Farm Ac- cident Survey is being carried out. The information will be tabulated and analyzed, and the results divulged as soon as they are available, ' Agricultural representatives report that a total of 5492 people are acting as accident reporters in the Farm Accident Survey. "I would like to commend all those who are serving as farm accident reporters, and also those farm families that are provid- ing the inforation on aceldents on their farms," states Mr. Hilliard. "This information will be of value to farm organizations and the Depart- ment in devising a safety education program designed to reduce the num- ber of all accidents on Ont, Farms." Si Milton Stone | SOMETHING TO BLOW ABOUT off for Phil Nimmons, one of Can- ada's top progressive-jazz players, He and his group have had their CBC radio engagements increased; Playing it cool seems to be paying' they Phil are now on the air one a week, and his nine sidemen are now heard each Tuesday night in Nimmons 'N' Nine, a program of cool music, broad- cast live from Toronto on the Trans- Canada network. It is their third season on radio, No Quick Path To Success Any person who suggests that there is a short cut to successful achieve- ments is in érror. One of the most misleading of all types of advertising is that which proclaims that there are ten easy lessons to anything. There are in this world a few pro- digies with an enormous appetite for knowledge, who reach great heights of achievement very quickly. But they are the exception, not the rule. Real excellence comes from study, hard work, and application. No mat- ter what the trade or profession one chooses to follow, he must go through a kind of apprenticeship until he reaches the point of maturity. IR This conception has been somewhat lost in recent years, due to the preyal- ence of give-away shows which create the illusion that it is possible to get rich quick, and the fact that com- paratively high wages were available to young people who had no training and little skill. Now that conditions have changed somewhat, it has become clear once again that there is no quick path to true success, One must take the time needed to acquire skills, and that of- ten requires years.. And top pay can only be obtained by top quality men. Thus it is clear than any philosophy which wants a quick, easy path to suc- cess is basically wrong, For most people achievement is, to borrow a poet's words: "by slow degrees to fulness wrought." --Watchman-Warder [ Epsom Miss Paline Beacock and Miss Fran- cis Barnum of Oshawa spent the week end with Pauline's parents Mr. and Mrs. W, J.
