We opened the devotional with a hymn "Let the Beauty of Jesus be seen in me". Mrs. Honey gave a reading and Mrs. Saunders read the scripture, followed by a prayer from Mrs. Walsh. The hymn "Bless be the Tie that Binds" closed the devo- tional. We then went outside to play games followed by a few indoor games. The prizes were won by Mrs. E. Lee and Mrs. Wes. Lane. Our business session consisted of the reading of the minutes of the May meeting, roll call answered by nine- teen members and the reading of the treasurer's report. REQUEST for a Licensed Nursing Home in Port Perry--After obtaining further information and making a study of the cost to the Municipality together with the administration and the need for a Nursing Home in Port Perry the following Resolution was passed: I That the Council of the Village of Port Perry, do not feel that a Nursing Home is needed in Port Perry at this time, due to the increased accommo- dation at Fairview Lodge, in the near Carried, REQUEST by Mr. Wm. J. Carneglé that Council give him a Letter releas- ing him from his bond re Services in connection with his Subdivision Agree- ment with the Village of Port Perry. Council considered the matter and then decided that since the require- ments have not yet been fully met, they are unable to release him from the requirements of the bond. DEPUTATION -- Mr. Wm. Beare appeared before Council with a letter from the Central Ontario County Dis- trict High School Board requesting the Village of Port Perry to increase the Debenture Issue from $260,000. to $300,000. for the erection of an addi- tion to the Port Perry High School. This increase being due to the De- partment of Education's requirements for increased area in specific rooms and due to the tenders received. BY-LAW NUMBER 1318 to amend By-Law Number 1308 to approve of the borrowing of $260,000. by the Corporation of Port Perry upon de- benture for the purpose of erecting an addition to the Port Perry High Schaol was moved, seconded, read three times, passed, signed, and the seal of the Corporation affixed there- to. Christie, Teacher Friday, July 8rd, Guides and Brow- nies and Guiders were up on tiptoes with excitement all day when a group of American Scouts and their Scout Leaders stopped over night in Port Perry on their way up to Camp at Doe Lake, ' A reception had been planned at the Port Perry Scout and Guide Hall for 2.00-v'clock but a phone call from the Scout Leaders before noon say- ing they had car trouble and were going to be delayed was disappoint- ing but a Guide smiles and sings under all difficulties and so the re- ception went on as planned. The Guides and Brownies kept up a won- derful spirit and put on a delightful program in spite of the fact the guests of honour couldn't be present. A huge cake decorated by Tawny Owl Doreen Butson in red and white with Union Jacks and American Flags with the words "Welcome A- merican Girl Scouts" and pink Le- monade was served. We kept a smaller replica of the cake for the. guests which was served when they arrived at eight o'clock. Laurence Clarke led the Scugog Island and Port Perry Packs and Companies m singing their favourite guiding songs, and had hoped in return to hear the American Scouts sing theirs. The District Commissioner would very much like to thank the leaders from the Island, their girls and the Port Perry guides and brownies for turn- ing out looking so smart and for their sympathy and understanding of the unfortunate situation. At eight o'clock our friends arrived at the home of Doreen Butson and such a flurry of excitement that was. They had managed to get the car fixed and made the vest of the seven hundred miles safely. We saluted each other all around and true to guiding spirit were soon having a jolly time. WE Caught 24 Inch Bass In Lake Scugog Mr. William Busch of Buffalo caught a grand daddy of the bass family! It was while Mr. Busch was vaca- tioning at "Birdseye Center" that he spent a little time fishing a short distance off shore. On Saturday, July 4th, he fastened onto a 6% Ib. bass measuring 24 inches long. The weight and length were checked by Mr. H. Lansley and Mr. C. Pogue of Toronto. Unusual Bloom Miss Grace Davis brought an un- usual blossom for us to see. The flower somewhat resembled a rose at first glance, a second look made one question whether it was a tulip or a water lilly. Just what the proper technical name is no one here seemed to know, but the blossoms came from a tree which had many such flowers. This is the first year that it has bloomed. The flowers had a greenish tinge -- but with touches of colour which reminded one of a tea rose. Five Hurt on Scugog Road An accident on the county road, on Scugog Island, during the week-end, resulted in three people being admit- ted to the Oshawa Gen. Hospital. Two others released. All were riding in the same 'car when it apparently went out of control and left the road. Donald Scott, 27, R.R. 3, Port Perry, suffered head injuries, his son Ken- neth, 8, had back injuries and Roy Maceder, 5, also had head injuries. Claude Patterson, 26, 560 Monrave Ave, Oshawa, and his son, Ronald, were treated and allowed to go home. Arthur Whiteside, OPP, Whitby De- tachment, investigated. It was re- ported to be raining heavily when the accident occurred. Appointed Director Walter M. However we were up as bright as new pennies again at five o'clock and sat down to breakfast at 5.30. Marj Fralick prepared a road map for the completion of the journey and also a fast and direct route home to Vincent Town New Jersey where the American Scouts were from. All the girls met at the Scout Hall at 6.00 a.m. and pictures were taken with the Canadian Flags. The American Scouts and Leaders put on several of their ceremonies for us and showed us their friendship circle. They sang several of their Guiding Songs for us and then started off for Doe Lake. It was decided that as the cars were going past the District Commission- er"s Farm that a brief stop would be made so that the girls could see the twenty-six ponies owned by the Hil family. The American Shetlands gave the Scouts a delightfully warm welcome in the orchard and the scouts in turn were enchanted with all the baby colts, the calves in the barn and the newborn baby kittens and twin kids (baby goats). Marj.
