Our thanks are extended to all who contributed toward this event, Canon Adye of the British and Foreign Bible Society was our guest preacher last Sunday and he gave us an interesting account of the work of the Society; as well as reading the lesson, Besides his activities with the Bible Society, Canon Adye is also president of the Dickens Fellowship in Toronto. . ' A workshop for Sunday School teachers will be held next week-end, from 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17. This will include teachers from other local churches as well as our own. Leaders are coming from Toronto to help us with this, Some 90-100 tea- chers have been invited to attend from Blackstock, Ashburn, Greenbank, Brooklin, etc., as well as Port Perry. The four leaders will conduct groups in teaching children of 'different ages. Teachers are asked to bring a box lunch. There will be a meeting of the Sun- day School Teachers' Group tonight (Oct. 8th) in the parish hall at 8 p.m. The Evening Guild will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 18th at the home of Mrs, Jefford. The meeting has been moved to Tuesday evening on account of Thanksgiving week-end. On Saturday, October 24th, the Ontario County Mental Health Asso- ciation is holding a workshop in Osh- awa to acquaint interested people in the area with the facilities avail- able for treatment of mental illness and to discuss the role of the com- munity in promoting mental health and in rehabilitating those who suffer from mental illness. It is hoped to arrange a carload from this parish. All who are interested in attending are asked to contact Mr. Fuller. Some of the ladies of the W. A. spent an interesting day last Tuesday attending the York East Deanery Wo- men's Auxiliary meetings in Ajax. Those who went include Mrs, Glass, Mrs. Woods, Mrs. Fuller, Mrs. Long, Mrs. Staple, Mrs. McClintock, Mrs. Wilkinson, Miss Muriel Cook, Miss Edith Brooks, and Mrs. J, Allen. The annual Christmas Bazsar of the Evening Guild will take place on Saturday, November 21st, this year, Mr, 8. Causley played the hymns very capably for us last Sunday, Our service seemed very different with the canticles and responses being said in- stead of sung. The teenagers of the area held their weiner roast at Well Springs Park last Saturday evening, Some seven- ty-five young people took part, includ- ing about 12 Anglicans. A district Youth Council was formed which met Tuesday evening in our rectory, under the direction of Rev. Braham of Scu- gog. The Yollowing executive was elected: Grant Parrott, Ashburn, pre- sident; .Carol Smith, Greenbank, sec- retary; and Ian Beare, Port Perry, treasurer. We understand that, al- though each church was to nominate a delegate to this meeting, no one from our church was present. This District Youth Council is a force to unite the young people in our area and it is to be hoped that the teenagers of the Church of the Ascension will take an active part in it. The W. A. will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 18th at the parish hall. >: Cedar Creek Congratulations to Murray Barnard |} and his bride, the former Lois L.
