And about all they had to do was loaf around and count their money." WAIL, that's quite a "change from my day. But I still think there must be a bright young lad somewhere in Manitoba where this firm is located who would give his eye teeth for this writing job, so I decided to put it in the column and see what happens. I remember well when I was a young young fellow in a small Manitoba town, busting to get a chance to write. In those days, it. was thought that writ- ing was a poor way to make a living, so I was urged to be a school teacher. This I did, against my better judg- ment, but all the while I kept pounding on a typewriter and submitting stories, poems, articles and fillers to maga- zines and newspapers, I sold many of them, too, and the editors gave me lots of encouragement. In the middle of the depression, I tried free-lance writing and came close to starvation, but I loved it. I had to get on a pay- roll, but radio broadcasting started to develop and I got a job writing for radio. Then' when times picked up again, I tried free-lancing once more and I have been at it ever since. I haven't made a great deal of money, but it has been a rewarding life and 1 wouldnt trade places with a corpora- tion president. For some lad who has been pound- ing a typewriter too, there is a job waiting. of this paper, and tell be all about himself and his writing experience. I'll be glad to put in a word for him, and he can carry on from there. MAGAZINES FOR CHRISTMAS The year round gift!
