This is the first time this season that our house league has had a chance to play at night. The first game started at 7.00 o'- clock between Detroit and York Mill Canadians. The Canadians played a dandy game but Detroit proved the stronger of the two scoring four goals. The York Mills Canadians tried very hard but could not seem to find the net, and were beaten 4 to 0. The only penalty of the game went to Ron. Jeffrey of the Y.M. Canadians for elbowing. The second game of the evening was between the Leafs (who went to Blackstock last Saturday) and Boston. The Leafs who at the present time are the top team of the league were beaten by Boston 2 to 1. The Leafs goalie D, Hallett did a wonderful job of goal tending in the first half of the game and if he had a little more support from the rest of the team the Boston's star goal getter would not have been so lucky with his scoring. In the second half of the game the Leafs changed their goalie to Gene Hurst, who did not seem to have near the shots on the goal as Hallett had. Russel Stevens got two goals for Bos- ton and Billy Mark got the only goal for the Leafs. Penalties went to i Edinborough and Stevens. Little League Team Standing BIG LEAGUE * The third game of the night was a hard fought game with the Telcos coming up with three goals against Black Hawks one, The goal getters for the Telcos were Raines with one and Adderley with two. The only penalty in the game went to Reader. The last game of the night was a rough and tumble game with six pen- alties, This is more penalties than the other three games put together, with the hard fighting Telcos getting a shut-out 8 to 0 on the Bruins, Goal getters for the Telcos were Roger Stevens 2 and Ron Taylor 1, Juveniles Win Ist Game of Play-0ffs Tuesday night, January 26th, our Juveniles went to Uxbridge to start the play-offs. This series is the best three out of five, with Port Perry Ju- veniles taking the first game 8 to 4. Be sure you come out and see the second game which is being played in Port Perry on Saturday, January 80th. LJ * » Port Perry Pee-Wees were not quite as fortunate as the Juveniles in their game in Uxbridge Tuesday night, Jon, 26th, They lost to Uxbridge with a score of 5 to 8. Hilltop Herald Hi Folks: . On behalf of the students I would like to extend a welcome to our new secretary, Miss Katherine Sheehy. We hope she will enjoy her work at the school and soon feel at home with the students, Last Friday afternoon the Port Perry Boys' Teams had decisive vie- tories over the teams from Brock High School. The Port Perry Seniors were the undeniable winners with a score of 106 - 31 and the Juniors with a score of 88 - 34. Congratulations, boys! - This Friday the boys will play the Uxbridge Teams at Uxbridge High S. while the Uxbridge Girls play at Port Perry. Unfortunately the Girls' Teams weren't as lucky this week. The Jrs. played their best game at Brock but were without the aid of two of their key players due to illness and.music examinations, The Senior Girls went down, to what we felt, was an undeserved defeat with a score of 26-22 in favour of Brock. - As the teams travel from school to school they learn to appreciate the high standards of sportsmanship which they strive to maintain. In the Girls' Intra Mural Basket. ball Monday afternoon, Team III de-- feated Team IV. Captains--Joyce Cookson and Barbara Fielding. Monday afternoon also found the boys fervently sweeping the ice at the curling rink. All that sweeping help- ed the following rinks to victories: Ian Beare's rink winners over Brian Taylor's rink. Dale Lowcock's rink winners over Reg. Philip's rink. Bill McMillan's rink winners over Chick Carnegie's rink, The grade thirteen ¢lass is calmly awaiting the exams which begin next week. Good luck students! Jeanne Williams Agricultural Soc. Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the Port Perry, Reach and Scugog Agricultural Society was held in the Port Perry Library on Monday, January 18, 1960, The minutes of the last Annual Meeting were read and adopted.. This was followed by the President's ad dress. in which some of the achieve- ments of the past and possibilities of the future were reviewed. The Presi- dent reported that he had heard that "Port Perry had the best Board of Directors in the province" and after a |. year as president he quite agreed, A resolution from the Town of Till- bury, re the revision of the Grant Sys- tem applying to Arenas and Com- munity Hall, was read and our Society endorsed this resolution. The sum of $10 was donated to the Crop Improvement Association. The Fire Insurance Policy was discussed. The financial report showing a good year financially was read and was fol- lowed by the Auditor's report. Brief reports were given on the Fair Dates meeting in Lindsay, the District meeting in Peterborough, and by the variious committee chairmen who re- ported a very good Fair, _ Mr, Fair spoke briefly on the 4-H Club work and thanked the Board for their co-operation in this department. Twelve out of thirteen members of the Grain and Dairy Calf Clubs completed this project. The secretary was: instructed to pay the affiliation fee to the Association of Agricultural Societies. A recommendation was made that the new Board of Directors consider celebration of a Centennial in 1960. An interesting item shown was a post- er advertising the Reach, Port Perry and Scugog Agricultural Societies Fair (this is the order shown on bill) to be held on April 26th, 1893, at Man- chester. : The President then turned the meet- ing over to Mr, Lyn Fair, Agricul- tural Representative, for the nomina- tion of the Directors for 1960. The 1960 Executive is as follows-- President, A. R Johns; 1st Vice-Presi- dent, Dr. D. C, Christie; 2nd Vice-Pres. Frank Honey; Secretary-Treas,, Fred Lamb, United Chu Church W.M.S. The evening Auxiliary of the WM. S. met at the home of Helen Bathie Tuesday evening, Jan, 12, In spite of stormy weather 14 braved the icy roads and enjoyed a pleasant and pro- fitable evening. Past President Dora Dowson occupied the chair until the officers for 1960 were installed. The officers for this year are as follows: President--Helen Bathie Vice-Pres.--Kay Walker Preasurer--Hazel Crawford Rec. Sec'y--Joan Lane Press Sec'y--Doris Williams. Gladys Joblin expressed the appre- ciation of the auxiliary to our Past President Dora Dowson and all of- ficers who had helped make such a successful year. The devotional part of the program was in charge of Thelma Beare, Joan Lane and Audrey Lee. Audrey Lee presented an interesting chapter from our study book. We are all aware of the very important and often tragic incidents taking place in Africa as she struggles for self government and the equality of her people. The chap- ter "Old Patterns and New" told of the customs and tribal life and how the African people are now struggling against great odds for better educa- tion and home life for their families, Women are now taking an active part | Th in religion, business and politics. It is to be hoped the prayers of our mem- bers and all those intérested will go out for them and that some day in the | not too distant future people of all colours will live in unity. We would like to extend a hearty invitation to all interested in W.M.S. work who find attending an evening auxiliary meetings. evavenlent, $5 fon us tt our Helen Bathie entertained us with two beautiful organ numbers.
