June 28rd 8 heifers were purchased from old' Waich Tower Hereford Breeding | 'Convention Mr. Leeman Nixon, presiding min- 'ister of the Port Perry congregation, announced today that more than 226 local Jehavah's Witnesses in the Port Perry, Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax and "Bowmanville area are planning to at- tend the Watch Tower Convention ' June 30 to July 8, in the Granlstand, -- "Exhibition Park, Toronto. This as- 'sembly is expected to attract 25,000 , delegates from Canada and U.S, . In preparation for this assembly, many local Witnesses had a share. in the great campaign to obtain suffi. cient rooming accommodation for. all delegates. Saturdays and Sundays, as well as other times through the week, saw many of them making the trip to Toronto share in this work with hundreds of Toronto Witnesses, "and altogether 3,825 rooms in hotels and motels and-8,444 in private homes were obtained, with 16,187 hours be- ing expended, A staff of 52 full- time volunteers has been required to process the accommodations and as-- sign them to delegates. Mr. Nixon said, "Contributing pri- marily to the success of our solicita- tion. was the response of hosts and hostesses to the 1957 convention dele- gates". He went on to say, "The ex- emplary conduct of the Witnesses was remembered and people went out of their way to again provide them with rooms. Some even insisted on supply- ing free accommodation for our mis- sionaries and full-ti -time ministers, smiled with relief when: told it was a Witness convention that was com- ing. Influx of the Toronto delegates will begin June 20th, 2,000 automobiles are known to be bringing 6,300, while 476 have advised they will arrive by bus. 750 have chosen train trans- portation and 53 have made airplane reservations so far. 28 states, 8 pro- vinces and the Island of Haiti are now represented.
