To a speeding driver, fa- tigue can be as deadly as fumes. 2. To the many drivers who ave unsure about driving into a narrow diaponal parking spot, the Ontarlo Safety League offers these hints. Signal your intention to turn right. Approach the spot at right angles to the adjoining parked cars, and five feet from them. Wait until your car is one-third past the left rear bump- er of the car to the right of the va- cant space, then turn in sharply. 3. Driving with closed windows greatly increases the danger of car- bon monoxide poisoning if the car has leaky exhaust pipes, points out the Ontario Safety League. The danger increases still more if cigarettes are being smoked in the car. 4. Pedestrians can't win in an ar- gument with a moving car . ... ex- cept, perhaps posthumously in the law courts. The Ontario Safety Lea- gue recommends to all pedestrians the slogan:-- "Never mind who's right--Walk so you'll be left". 6. The Ontario Safety League en- dorses the interest in car-care, while questioning the patriotism of the Frenchman who owned a 1912 Hotch- kiss automobile. The French Army requisitioned the car in 1914, In 1939 he bricked the same car up with the observation that the army wasn't go- Women's Hospital Auxiliary The June meeting of the Women's Hospital Auxiliary held at the hospital on Monday afternoon, June 20th, Mrs. M. 'B. Dymond presiding. Owing to transportation difficulties no meeting was held in either April or May, but the sewing committee and the library committee functioned as usual. The "linen" at any hospital is a major item, and for the past six years the Auxiliary has repaired, replenish- ed, and added to the original stoek. During this time hundreds of needed articles have also been kept mended by a small group of outstanding sew- ers, this latter being no small task. Occasionally we "like to apprise the public of the work done by the wom- en of the community, not necessarily members of the Auxiliary, but women who give their time and ability, will- ingly and without remuneration, for the benefit of our hospital. Those of us who are members of the Auxiliary thank these women sincerely for their cooperation in this worthwhile effort. In view of the fact that the Ontario Hospital Commission is now giving a per diem rate to the hospitals to cover the cost of "linen" it will not be neces- sary for the Auxiliary to continue to pay for this commodity, but we shall continue to make as many articles as possible, also keep the supply mended, thus keeping down the cost to the Board. . This year we are changing from the usual "penny draw" to a draw with three prizes. The first prize will be tickets for a trip for two people, by plane or bus, from Toronto to Buffalo, with two nights at a hotel, and a four hour tour of the city of Buffalo. Of ing to get it this time. Set e-- RENEW YOUR MAGAZINES Through The Port Perry Star N WHAT CANADIAN CITY IS COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY ANOTHER? Instead a showery atmosphere pre- vailed in the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. Newnham. This get-to-gether was in special honour of Miss Barbara Mac- Dougall whose marriage takes place shortly to Mr. Barry Fletcher. The happy couple were seated in the arch under an assortment of colored bal- loons and pink streamers. Mr. James Doupe read a humorous address prior to the gift unwrapping. The bride-to- be and her fiancee voiced their thank- you fittingly. Everyone wished the pair a happy future and admired the shower of presents.
