Graham 294 Al THE PORT PERRY STAR, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6th, 1960--8§ Social Studies Course for Local Teachers More than one hundred Ontario Co. teachers attended the opening session of this year's In-service training course at Brock District High School, Cannington, last Thursday, Social Studies is the theme for this year's course, and the opening speak- er was Mr. L. A, Code, B.A,, M. Ed., Inspector of Public Schools, Scarboro, The course will consist of a two-hour session each Thursday night until Nov. 3rd. Next week's meeting will feature Mir. Garnet McDiarmid, B.A., B.Ed., Principal of McConaughy School, at Richmond Hill, Ont., and a panel of six teachers discussing Social Studies aims and problems and answering .| questions from the floor. Other events scheduled include a "buzz session" evening on October 13, an address on Social Studies in grades one to three by Mr. W. 0. Edwards of Gage and Company, on October 20th., and two demonstration lessons on Oct. 27th. These will be conducted by Murs. Marion Johnston, Sunderland with her school, (8.8, No. 1 Brock) and by Mr. William Courtney of Cannington with a Junior class. "The final meeting will take the form of a banquet, with a speaker to corre- late the work of the whole course. A number of displays are also planned for the various meetings, The course is sponsored by Branch 5 of District 6 of the Ontario Public School Men Teachers' Federation.
