FACING THE WINTER We've had our first snow in Mani. toba and there's frost in the air most of the'time. We talk grumpily about another long winter in the offing, but secretly some of us like it. : I can still remember that old feel- banked up, the storm windows fited, the doors weather stripped and the woodbox full. To be provisioned and snug against winter is to -know a real glow of satisfaction. With modern windows, concrete foundations, mod- ern heating and all the rest, some of that joy may be lost. Not all of it however, Especially this Fall, when there has been such a good 'long stretch of harvest weather, and the bins are full I always think of Fall and Winter as times for consolidation, for chink- ing up the fortress of our lives, for family fun or "togetherness" as they call it these days. The Canadian nation right now is facing a sort of Economic Winter. We should be chinking up, consolidating our position, acting with restrain and prudence. "If we do, we can weather this Economic Winter without much difficulty. : ~I-think- we will. -I 'think we will. | I think Canadians are going . to de- mand restraint and prudence from government, labor unions, and busi- ness. are foolish when so many are without jobs; that price increases are -fool- hardy when present prices are being We know that wage demands |- voiced by many listeners, This enjoyable evening was brought to: a close by serving refréshments to .the parents, while the Seniors danced to the music provided by our capable disc jockey. , On Saturday, Nov, 5, our Jr. and Sr. girls volleyball teams journeyed to Sutton. . The Jr: girls came home un- successful, but the Senior compensated for this loss by winning two games, * "Wednesday, Nov. 2nd was a black day none of the pupils will forget. - This day brought our evening football team home to us from a scoreless game with Pickering Boys School. Dont worry fellows we think you're the best there is. Owing to extensive re-organization going on at present in the Canadian National Railways, the post of Com- mission Agent will be closed. Commencing November 16th, Port Perry and surrounding territory will come under the jurisdiction of the Central Zone Office at Oshawa. An express truck will call daily Monday through Friday at Port Perry to carry on the delivery and pick-up. services of the company.
