LETTER from the Bell Telephone Co. of Canada dated August 18, 1961 re 2 plans for answering the Police telephone when the office is unman- ned. 1. The first is a system which has proven "quite satisfactorily in other towns (Bowmanville, Gravenhurst, and Pickering). The system includes a light and a telephone answering and recording unit. This unit would be wired into the police telephone at the office and would answer the tele: phone as well as take messages. The light located at some prominent point in town would light up and burn | steadily until the receiver of this main telephone is lifted. During the hours when the office is unattended, light on, would simply go to the of- fice and play back the recorded mes- sage left by .the caller. This means that no police call would be missed. The monthly charge for this system is approximately twenty-three dollars, and a non-recurring installation charge of fifteen dollars would apply. .2. A second plan of operating would be basically the same as you have now. However, a light could be. installed at a prominent location which would light up and stay lit until the Con- stable went back to his office and lifted the telephone from the receiver. He could then call his wife and get the message from her. The monthly charge for this system would be ap- proximately three dollars. , The second plan is probably the better of the two, however, it will continue to tie the Constable's wife down to her home. RESOLUTION--That a telephone warning light be installed at a pro- minent place on Queen St. at a mon- thly cost of $3.00 to assist the Police Dept. in their Duties. Carried. STATEMENT of.
