Hartin of the Sonya Braves, to-night bested Little Britain's ace, Wes, Cornish, in a nine inning pitchers battle 2-1. Hartin spun a cool 3-hitter |. while striking out 9 and walking 3. Two of the three were back to back in the firgt inning to give the Britains their only'run. Cornish, meanwhile had but three strikeouts and did not 153ue a walk as he allowed six hits. . Sonya scored both their runs in the bottom of the fifth, as pinch hitter Jewell singled home "Mac" McMillan from second, after being on base via an error and a stolen base. Jewell promptly scored the run that proved to be the winner on Wanamaker's single and a two base: error to the centre fielder, These errors thus made both runs against Cornish unearned. Oddly enough, these miscues were the only ones of the game as both teams played tight play-off baseball. The Braves gained a 3 run lead 1n the very first inning as the initial trio of hitters batted safely. Wan- amaker singled, Doug MaMillan also singled, and Cawker tripled and scored on a ground out by Hallett, to give the tribe a lead they never re- linguished. The "Injuns" scored 7 more tallies in the third to give Sonya's right- hander "Ron" Jewell a comfortable 10-0 lead, and ease the pitching pres- sure. "Ron" then coasted behind a 21 hit barrage thrown up by his mates against Williams, Lash and finally Grozelle of the Lindsay mound crew. Every man in the Brave starting line- up shared in the hitting spoils, with 'Wanamaker and Cawker being the greediest, splitting 8 hits between them. i The Sonya boys were further spurred on by a telegram from Mr. and Mus.
