PORT PERRY COUNCIL NEWS Minutes of a Special Meeting i, Council of the Village of Port Perry were held in the Municipal Office on Friday, February 23rd at 7.30 p.m. PRESENT -- Deputy-Reeve R. A. Kenny in the chair, Councillors Ar- thur T. Cox, Irving A. Boyd, Rruce F. Beare. PURCHASE OF TRACTOR Discus- sed from Dilworth Equipnient Ltd. Councillor Boyd reported on Mr. Heron of Brooklin being up to look "over the International Tractor and that he stated that it was 86 horse power, possibly a 67 or 68 model but felt that it was capable of doing the work and worth the money paid for it. ~ Deputy-Reeve R. A. Kenny reported . Beech of Uxbridge being over Cl pspect the tractor, but not having a power take-off, he was not able to check the actual horse-power of the motor as it stands at the present time, but he stated that it was a 28 horse-pawer on the belt, with 86 horse-power motor. He also felt that the tractor was capable of performing the work required and is worth the purchase price, He also pointed out that it is a commercial unit but had farm tires on the back. The Clerk was instructed to contact Mr. Middleton and ask him to appear at the next regular meeting to dis- cuss various matters with Council. HIGHER WATER RATES for 1062. Debenture payments on the new - water tower commencing in 1962, it was felt that the water rates woul" have to be increased, and it was left with the Clerk to check on the amount of money required, so that new rates could be worked out. : WATER MAIN to Well-No. 2 The Clerk was instructed to write Mr. R E. Sims and request a Plan of th Watermain from Lilla, St. to Wel' No. 2. SANPAX for PLUGGED DRAINS It was left with the Clerk to phone the Town of Whitby and ask where Sanpax is sold and why it is not ob tainable by private individuals. It was the fifth an- nual event of its kind and there were over 400 pupils, ranging in age from five years to the teen-agers on the ice, in costumes of all designs & hues of the rainbow, Each class was well represented and all the' Supervision, judging and well arranged program was entirely ijn the control of the Teachers. Every year the costumes seem to excel the previous year contestants and this year the fancy costumes were outstanding with the comics excellen and the originals artistic. Several of the teachers were also in costume and went out on the ice to join in the fun One of the outstanding characters, Long John Silver, kept everyone guessing until finally it turned out to be none other than principal Cornish Messrs. Stewart Lane and Glen Tay" lor went as Santa Maria and an Air- craft Carrier, respectively. It was gratifying to the committee 'and friends on hand to support .this project. The car driven by George Carlton Brown, 42, or Bigelow Street, was proceeding south on Lil'a Street when the collision oc- curred with a car proceeding west on Queen. The car owned by David Crews, was driven by Miss Barbar May Hayes of Scugog Street.
