The house "was given for this purpose by Dr. J. A. Ratterson and was located on top of the ridges north of Raglan, Some 60 fire fighters representing seven volunteer Fire Brigades: were on hand to make observations which it is hoped will enable these men to better cope with future fires. + Various pieces of equipment were used and their effects noted. One spectacular piece was the piercing applicator of the Uxbridge Brigade with a water nozzle that can be dri- ven through 10" of concrete. Smoke bombs were used beforg starting the fire while volunteers en- tered the building with oxygen masks to try to locate a dummy inside the house. Four pumpers were present from Oshawa, Garrard Rd., Whitby and Brooklin. Two tankers were present from Southeast Pickering and the Reach Truck from Port Perry. These tankers hauled water from Cedar Creek to a reservoir constructed of tarpaulins at. the site," holding 9000 gallons, ' Many spectators were attracted to the area and some stayed to watch | the men in action. Upon completion of the survey the Municipal Service Co. will provide one mounted wall map and a number of maps for public utilities, ete. Later it is expected that the map will be reduced and made avail. able in pocket size. For the purpose of numbering the streets will have one number alotted for every 20 feet. This is done so that any future needs of the town are taken care of. without confusion. Should the day come, for instance, when one of the present residential streets . becomes a street of small stores there would be sufficient num- ber "alotted now to take care of all such stores, Numbers will start at the lake front and continue west, and will start to number at. Scugog Street and con- tinue north and south. Scugog St. was chosen as the starting point be- cause it is at right angles to the north south streets.
