Catholic CATHOLIC ENQUIRY AND STUDY GROUP This group will in future be held every THURSDAY EVENING at 8.00 p.m., the last class having taken place on Thursday, November 22nd. Father Mous began this session with an out- line of the twenty-eight lessons which comprise 'the complete course and then he posed a question: If the Blessed Virgin Mary was "full of grace" from the beginning, could she develop spiritually duripg ber life. span? He finally elucidated the con- clusion that she could. grow in. ma- turity and wisdom and we were asked to apply this discovery to ourselves. Learning about God gives us a great. er capacity to love and serve Him and so attending instruction classes helps our souls to grow and increases their capacity for sanctifying grace. Father Mous then gave a talk on the "Church of Christ". . When people hold the Bible to be the only infallible authority, it leads to diversity of opinion and divisions among Christ- ians, The authority of Christ's Church rests upon the twin pillars of scriptural truth and tradition. The earliest Christian teaching was not written down but given by word of mouth "the living and perdurable word", Christ selected twelve men to be the nucleus of His Church and for three years He taught them by word and by example preparing them to carry His teaching to the whole world. Fifty days after the resur- rection of Christ at Pentecost, the in- fant Church reecived the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide it and streng- then it during it's pilgrimage here on earth. The Church in reality is Christ living in the world, and when the Church speaks with one undivided voice on faith and morals it is the voice of Christ heard throughout the world. Christ said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life", and so the living presence of Christ in the Church guarantees that her teaching is free from error. St. Peter was ap- pointed by Christ to he the head of His Church. "I will give thee the keys of the Kingdom" and the Haly Father, the Pope, is the legitimate successor and spiritual heir of the great Apostle. Throughout the cen- turies, the Church of Christ has been reviled and persecuted because it re- fuses to compromise with truth or to conform to worldly standards. It remains today, as always, the living embodiment of Christ's authority, ex- horting all men to greater perfection of life and providing the means to attain holiness and salvation. The in- fallible, permanent, teaching Church of Christ sypplies the spiritual needs of all men, for all time, in every part of the world.
