ANNUAL MEETING The meeting of the Plot Owners will be held in the MUNICIPAL BUILDING, PORT PERRY at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26th N. W. Heayn, Sec.-Treas. Jan, 24. SCUGOG ~ NEWS We are so pleased to report bright- er days for the Fralicks. Little Dale Fralick had a very successful opera- tion in Toronto and is now able to re- turn to her home. After 2 mos. in the Oshawa Hospital, Cecil has had the apparatus removed from his head. Tho' somewhat uncomfortable, it should give him more hope that he is making progress and eventually will have his body restored. On Jan. 9, the Head U.C.W. met at the home of Joyce Heayn. We were very glad to have Mrs. Earl Heayn with us again. There were 16 ladies present. It was necessary to keep our meeting from dragging as our president, Marie Healey, is now a business girl with G.M.C. and has many duties to perform. During the Devotional period, Ruth Heayn read the Scripture from Colos- sians and I John. The main thought being "God is Light". Helen Redman conducted the meditation and conelud- ed that God's creativity still continues. Reta Wilson read a story--"The knock at the door". Tt represented "Joy" which was analysed so that J stands for Jesus, Y stands for you and the O links Jesus with you. A memorial prayer was offered in memory of our recently deceased member and secre- tary, Leona Barry. The roll call was "What [ got for Christmas" or a new year resolution, Betty Reader kindly consented to take over the secretarial duties of the late Leona Barry. Christmas correspondence as read included notes of appreciation and en- couragement from former friends or shut-ins who had received gifts or cards. We were particularly pleased to hear from Rev. Joblin and Mrs. Ferrier of Beeton. : Reta Wilson presented much amuse- ment. in her readings of "Reflected Glory" and "How Green Is My Virus!" Ruth Heayn found a puzzler in a Reader's Digest When she asked us to write down 3 letter~words which could be applied to suggested 3 meanings. Marie Healey had 2 selections of ap- propriate humour in "When morning Conies" and "I'm Fine, Thank You". Three dates were drawn to our at- tention, Jan. 21--An executive meet- ing in St. Stevens of Oshawa; Jan. 283 -- The Mystery Sister supper in Grace Church of Scugog; Feb. 12 The Annual Fres'y meeting in Bow- manville requesting the presence of 4 delegates. While we awaited a lunch of pie and ice-cream Reta Wilson had us list all the business places on Port Perry's main street. We were surprised to name over 60 places, CLASSIFIED CLASSIFIED ADS. & COPY MUST BE IN BY 9 a.m. WEDNESDAY On Wed, evening of Jan. 16 a small group of 16 met in Grace Church base- ment to represent the congregation of the Scugog church. We missed Cecil I'ralick who is always present upon these occasions. The Don Croziers also were unable to attend because of their journey to Florida the next day. Rev. Gilbert opened the meeting with prayer. Following the reading and adoption of the 1962 minutes, Rev. Gilbert gave the statisticai report for Scugog, 1962. There were 7 baptisms, 3 marriages and 6 funerals. The membership stood at 133, Mrs. Geo. Edgar and Mr. Robt. Prentice having been removed by death. There was some discussion and explanation re the records and register for Commun- ion and Membership. Reports from the various organiza- tions were duly presented and adopted. Most of the boards remain the same as of the previous year. Mr. Robt. Cawker was elected to become a trus- tee in place of Mr. Geo. Smith who has become an adherent of another church. While the meeting was being con- cluded, several ladies served a light lunch. Recently we had a lovely shower in the township hall to honour Leona Goose and Delbert Charles upon the occasion of their recent marriage. We are glad to hear that Rev. C. C. Gilbert is feeling much hetter than he was last week. It has been drawn to our attention that the M. & M. Committee for Scu- gog United Church has a new scheme for this year in order to give their department a boost and get people more interested and conscious of this important field of endeavour. Here is their plan which requires your atten- tion and co-operation: -- On Tues,, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. we are requested to meet at Grace United Church for a sale called "Four in One", which in- cludes baking, afternoon tea, Christ- mas decorations, and personal items. In the meantime we are requested to check our storage places in search for articles not in present use, but which may be appreciated by someone else. These may be left at Grace Church or the home of Mrs. Nelson Reader. Anyone wishing articles picked up please phane Mrs. Victor Aldred, Mrs. Murray McLaren or Mrs. Nelson Reader. If your cupboards and at- tics are bare, you will still want to donate something so you may apply your skill in baked goods. This ven- ture should prove very interesting and helpful. -- Manchester This community was shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden pass- ing on Monday morning of Mr. Geo, Leach. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved family. Mrs. Harry Thorne, Oshawa was with-her sister Mrs. W. W. Holtby on the week-end, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Fielding, Port Perry visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Donnelly on Sunday. Mrs. Jas. Torrens, Kingston, spent a few days with her mother, Mrs. Frank Johnston last week. Mr. and Mrs. George Munro, Whit- by visited his parents, Mr .and Mrs. W. D. Munro on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs, Terry Cleverton and children of Uxbridge were Sunday guests of her sister, Mrs. Lawrence Midgley and family.
