United Church Women The U.C.W. met in the Sunday 8. room on Tues. Feb. 12th at 8 p.m. with the Pres. Mrs. M. Dowson in the chair. The meeting opened with the Theme hymn, followed by Prayer. The Roll call was taken, and brief reports were given by Units 7, 8, 9 and 10. Mrs. M. Williams reporting for Li- terature, referred to the Indian situa- tion in Canada which leaves much to be desired, She recommended a book entitled "Dr. Hap" which gives an in- teresting story of Missionary work amongst the Indians and Eskimoes. This book is available at the Public Library. Mrs. M. Dowson gave a brief re- sume of the annual Presbyterial meet- ing held in Trinity United Church, Bowmanville, Feb. 12th. Ten of our members attended. The Devotional exercises were in charge of Unit 6. Mrs. O. Jeffrey reading the "Call to Worship"; Mrs. R. St. John the Scripture, and Mrs. G. McDonald the meditation. Unit 7 was responsible for the pro- gramme. An excellent film was -- >» Ed (8am) Oyler Legion Auxiliary By Marie Monahan There was an executive meeting held at the home of Mr. M. Woodcock of which was presided over by his wife, Alice Woodcock, who is the Sec retary of the I.A. Plans were made about which subjects to be brought to the attention of the general meeting, to be held on Feb. 12. There was only a few turned out but they had an in teresting evening, and who could ask for more? I stayed home, I was afraid of being snowed in. The regular meeting was held as usual, the second Tuesday of each month, we still have not decided on our new vice president but we have two candidates June Symes and Marg. Orde and next week their fate wil be decided. Good luck girls, There was also decided upon a do- nation to, I think, a very deserving cause. A new club hag been started up in Port Perry, called The Senior Citizens Club, It's a wonderful thing to think of the elderly people getting together to talk over old times, and, I feel doubly proud in having a very small part in their endeavour to start- ing a club of their own and I am sure all my comrades stand behind me in wishing them Good health, happiness, and of course, good luck in the years ahead. There is a rummage sale on Friday, Feb. 22, in the old I.G.A. store in Port Perry, it starts 1,00 p.m. Come one come all. Don't forget the Bingo held every two weeks, the next one being on Feb. 28th. Game starts at 8 p.m. That's all the news for now, I will try and have more next month, 80 keep looking. To Organize Film Council Plans are being made to organize a Film Board Council for the Port Perry Area. With this in mind a meeting has been arranged for Tuesday, Feb. 26th at 8 p.m. in the Municipal Build. ing. Miss Ann Howard of the Na. tional Film Board will be here to con- duct the meeting and to answer questions. i All clubs, organizations, schools, or Sunday Schools are invited to send their representative with the idea of becoming a member. Moase presided, and after extending a cordial welcome to all present, opened with a poem entitled "Faith". Mrs. H. Smeltzer conducted the Worship period with Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Day and Mrs, Willls assisting. The Units separated for the busi. ness portion, meeting together again for the programme, which was in charge of Mrs, M. Dowson. The sec- ond chapter of "The Word and The Way" was read by Mesdames Cawker and Beadle, with Mrs. S..Ploughman taking the Scripture. A question and answer period followed, with Mrs. Dowson summarzing at the close. Mrs. 8. Cawker favoured with a solo.
