On Motion the minutes of Meet- ings #9 and #10 were adopted as printed. Carried. Depuations and Interviews-- Dr. J. H. McKinney was present and discussed a Board of Health prob- lem with Council. This problem was whether or not to conduct a Sabin Polio Cline in the Township this year. Prior to administering the Sabin Vac- cine it is required to have recent Salk protection either by two injections spaced one month apart or by a booster dose if the original Salk in- jections are not recent. Then after a 3 month waiting period the Sabin vaccine could be administered. It is expected that the Board of Health will decide upon a course of action in the near future. Dr. McKinney reported a drainage problem affecting his own property. The drainage on Centre St. was bad this spring with water coming across the lots from the east towempty into the ditch on the north side of Centre St. There are two 4" tiles parallel- ing the street on the north side which would appear to have been installed more than 30 years ago and did not work this spring. For some time the water remained in a pool north of Centre St. and east of Dr. McKinney's driveway and this 'water shguld have beer; carried to Baldwin St. by the drains. The Council .advised Dr. Mec- Kinney to bring this matter to the attention of the Road Superintend- 'ent. (Correspondence-- 1. A letter from Lawlor Home- builders Co-operative Ltd. requested that the Council investigate the lack of drainage at Willow Park Drive and This matter was dealt with under General Business by Re- solution #6. 2. Mr. Wm. G. Lawson, on behalf of W. D. Smith & Son Ltd., asked Council and Planning Board if they would object to hig client using 37 acres of Lot 21, Con. 4 for gravel pit purposes. a On Motion this request was referr- ed to Planning Board. Carried. 3. A notice was received from the 4196 to change zoning from R-4 to asphalt roads. Following the Wed- nesday night meeting Mr. Wilson has estimated the culvert needs and tend- ers will be invited accordingly. (See Resolution #3.) WELFARE AND PROPERTY Councillor F. Sturch reported that the water supply to the tap in the men's washroom had been again connected. FIRE--Councillor F. Thompson re- ported that the soil is still too wet to excavate for the Myrtle Station CPR watermain to see if it might be of use for a water supply for fire pur- poses. A report on the findings will be made as soon as possible. Also reported was the levelling of the fill at Garrard Road Fire Hall. PARKS---No report was given but Chairman J. Goodwin arranged for suitable times for the inspection of artificial ice arenas in the district and a meeting of the Parks Committee. General Business-- Councillor Roberts asked about the request of Mrs. Green to the Depatr- ment of Highways regarding permis- sion to plant three trees south and west of the intersection of Highways 7 & 12. It was agreed that Mrs. Green be informed that Mr. Bunn of the Department of Highways has been in Brooklin on two ocacsions and been unable to contact her. It was suggested that Mrs. Green designate -some alternate person to contact in case -Mr. Bunn returns and Mrs. Green is not available. ~ Reeve Goodwin reported that the matter of subsidy for Manning Road has been discussed with Dr. M. Dy- mond and was hopeful that some pro- gress had been made. Resolutions-- 1. Moved that the Road Superin-- tendent be informed of the weed and brush spray demonstration on May 8th sponsored by York County with recommendation to participate. ~~ Carried. 2. Moved that the Council of the Twp. of Whitby accepts the estimate of the Bell Telephone Co. on the pro- posed Thickson Rd. C.N.R. Crossing improvement and authorizes that it be included in the estimates of the pro- ject. Carried. } 3. Moved that the Road Superin- tendent be and he is hereby instructed to invite tenders for the delivery of 66 culverts and couplings of various sizes from the manufacturers of this R-1B on a block of land situated, south west of the City Hall. | 'On Motion this notice was filed. | Carried. ! 4. Ruby introduced her cou- sin, Helen Parrott of Ashburn. She is a graduate nurse of Oshawa Gen- eral Hospital and recently graduated from The Evangelical Alliance Mis- sion (Team) in Chicago. With her washer classmate Miss Jan Benson of Maine. Both of them expect to leave soon for mission fields in Asia, Miss Parrott gave us an illustrated address on Arabian and its people. On behalf of those present Helen thanked Miss Parrott. The group in charge presented her with a Maple Leaf Pin. We wish Helen Parrott and Jan Benson God-speed in their chosen work. Lucille chaired the business session, with its usual reports. There was an invitation from Blackstock U.C.W. to their dessert luncheon on May 23, 1.30 p.m. at the Education Hall. Mrs. Richardson of Whitby will open our Bazaar at 2.30 p.m- May 15. We hope Marion Webster invited us to her home for the June meeting. Each mystery sister will receive a small gift. . - During the social hour, Ruby, Helen and Mrs. F. Vernon served' tasty re- freshinents. . We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Edward Legge from Manitoulin Island to our church and community. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Yeo returned from a most enjoyable three weeks vacation in Great Britain, on April 24th, their 36th wedding anniversary. Mrs. McConnell and sons of Ottawa were recent guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Conlin and Stancy. Mrs. Burnsell Webster spent a few days in Ottawa at the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Anderson. Reta Rodman read the scripture and Gertrude Col- ling the story and prayer dealing with the characteristics of Mary and Martha. Joyce Heayn led us in the Catechism study "Man" (What We Are). We concluded our worship period. with our offering. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and the roll call answered by a contest giving our mother's 'maiden name. ~~ Reports were heard from the Treasurer, Hos- pital represetnative and Sick Com- mittee. Correspondence was read from Rev. Fred G. Joblin thanking us for our Easter card remembrance. Mabel Graham opened the social part of our program with a poem "It's Spring". Reta Rodman tested the group with a soap contest and one of our welcome visitors Mrs. Kennedy received a rose bush as a lucky door prize. Joyce Heayn gave a reading "What Is A Mother" and a poem "Your Debt to Mother".
