Council News (Continued trom Front Page) "A strong solution of chlorine was prepared by adding '% gal. of Javex to 40 gallons of water and mixing in a 46 gal. drum. This solution was siphoned into the well by connecting a hose from ahead of the check valve into the pump casing. A residual of approximately 100 ppm was main- tained for about 5 hours and then the well was pumped to waste. May 30th--R. Templin chlorinated the well as above for 6 hours and again pumped to waste. The clorin- ator was set to maintain a residual of 1.0 ppm at the well. June Tth--T. Armstrong visited the site. The iron bacteria were absent from the water and a chlorine resi- dual of 1.0 ppm was being maintainel at the pump house. June 14th--Two 6 oz. samples for iron bacteria determination were re- quested from #2 Well. July 3rd--Report from OWRC Lab that there was no iron bacteria pre- sent in the samples received. The Division of Sanitary Engineer- ing has recommended that a chlorine residual of 1.0 ppm in the water leaving the pump house be maintain- ed until such time that chlorine té- siduals are detectable in the water from the more remote sections of the distribution system. In addition, chlorination should be accompanied by frequent flushing of hydrants." It was decided that a copy of the report from the O.W.R.C. should be given to the Waterworks Supt.
